Can't blame the Flyers for that. They made every effort. Some things were beyond their control. Only thing that you can argue that was, is the Carle situation. I'm okay with what they did there.

Well, they ca go 10% over the cap, and then put Pronger on LTIR, which eats up all of Timonen's cap hit, except $1.1mm or so.

It's high, but I'd rather pay Kimmo $6mm than $5.5 for Hainsey for 5 years

- Jsaquella

At this point MJL chimes in that the Flyers still have to deal with the $3 million in bonus which is why they aren't using LTIR now, right?

Giroux is the only one out of that group that will get a nice payday...Schenn has a ton to prove still and Couts is still very young and developing. I think you will see B Schenn and Couts sign for around 3.5/yr.
- flyerfan28

3.5 is a nice payday for those two.

Absolutely but its not like Flyers are going to have to pay a ton for the 3 of them which is what I was trying to say. Should still have money to field a good team.

Right, so Kimmo's money will be off the books, yes? Or do I have his contract wrong....?

Bottom line is they need to keep a big chunk of the budget open for those 3. Homer's not a fool- he won't forget it. It's good that they're RFA though that'd be a disaster if they were unrestricted.

Yes, Timonen is off the books when G, Schenn & Couts are due new deals

It would be better if we didn't sign Kimmo, have him sign with another team for $6.2, then say here how we should have signed him and we can't live without a puck moving d-man.

I've seen this movie before, and it starred human turnstyle Matt Carle.

Good for the Flyers for rewarding their own.

A lot is going to depend on Giroux. If he remains in the upper echelon of players. That deal scares me.

True, but any unearned bonuses won;t carry over-and they'll have a bonus cushion next year, too

It's not why they're not using LTIR right now. But the bonus cushion issue is a concern going forward. Although at this rate, Schenn isn't projecting to make his bonuses. I believe he has a minutes played bonus if I'm not mistaken. His 10 minutes last game isn't going to help him obtain that.

I love kimmo but I have a hard time reconciling his new number given his age and health and pk's number given his agehealth and upside. The large disparity doesn't seem to be warranted.

IIRC, Schenn has a bonus for 82 games and one for averaging 25 minutes.

So, the bonuses are only counted once they are achieved?

Opposite of that. They are counted until it is deemed that they cannot be achieved.

He can't meet either of them. The suspension killed his 100% game participation and 25 minutes a game is a joke.

Interesting, thought the Ducks d was already pretty deep, certainly Lovejoy is not in their top 6 right now.

Never quite understood why they even negotiated for the 25 minutes a game bonus. Must be some reason for it. Only Kovalchuk so far this year, is averaging 25 minutes or better. And in the last two Seasons, no Forward has averaged 25 minutes a game.

I forget the exact cap contract for Reno Mahi on the Eagles, but his bonus structure had a cap hit over $3 million(I believe more). In the NFL you can(or could) rollover unused cap space. Hence the unachievable bonus.

Goligoski has struggled this season but has been THAT awful. I suspect the scratching tonight is specifically over a series of low-percentage plays he made in the Phoenix and Colorado games. Scratching him after a win sends a message of individual accountability.

Goligoski did just fine immediately after the trade two seasons ago, while Neal scored a whopping one goal over the rest of his first season in Pittsburgh. Niskanen was deep in Marc Crawford's doghouse, and was just OK when he first came over to Pittsburgh.

The first full year after the trade was obviously lopsided toward Pittsburgh. Neal
blossomed and Niskanen got his career back on track. Goligoski started out last year on fire but then got injured (broken hand) and never really had his A game after he got back.

So far this year, Neal is scoring a lot of goals but really hasn't played THAT great overall (though I'm sure he'll be fine). Niskanen played well til he got hurt. Goligoski has struggled but should eventually be OK.

As a Pens fan I'll have to disagree with Neal's play so far. He's been the best player on his line. Been covering a lot on the backcheck for Malkin. Goligoski will come around. I agree with that. He's too talented not to. The trade was very uneven for Dallas however.

What does everyone think of this rumored Kimmo signing?
6M? I'm very iffy on that. Kimmo is awesome don't get me wring, but 6M? And wwe have cap issues. A hometown discount down to 3-4M sure would've been nice
We are going to be royally screwed next year for the cap if wwe don't buyout Bryz/Danny. Right now Bryz is finally earning his money, and Danny is the best playoff performer of the past decade
Not a good situation to be in

Actually, it's not that dire. It definitely makes things a little tighter, but it's worakble, without buyouts

Agreed thought something in the 3-4 million range. Don't like the 6 million cap hit at all
