Apologize for an OT post here on Politicsbuzz!

One of the biggest factors in the win last night, was Giroux's work at the faceoff dot in the defensive zone. He was 11 of 16 for 69% overall in defensive zone draws. Including going 9-12 against the big 3 of Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Stamkos. Getting control of the puck and limiting their chances on offensive zone starts was big last night.

Highlight was 4-4 and 100% against Stamkos.

Couturier was 4/10, not great, but not terrible

I missed most of the first period. Maybe he won a couple then.

he was compared to steve ott, but obviously no one expects anywhere close to ott's value besides the agitation aspect.
- OrangeBlack27

I think he has the skills, although he's obviously not as big. But Ott is actually smart (also a smartass too, but still smart). He doesn't hurt his team with the same kind of regularity Rinaldo does. Ott is also conversant in the English language. Based on his post game interview, it's pretty clear that Rinaldo is not smart, and English must be his second or third language. His lack of smarts will do more to prevent him from ever becoming another Ott-type player than any lack of hockey skill.

Also, again based on his post-game last night, I'd estimate that there is about a 60% chance that Rinaldo would be a serial killer if he wasn't a hockey player. And about a 10% chance he already is one anyway.

Goligoski has struggled this season but has been THAT awful. I suspect the scratching tonight is specifically over a series of low-percentage plays he made in the Phoenix and Colorado games. Scratching him after a win sends a message of individual accountability.

Goligoski did just fine immediately after the trade two seasons ago, while Neal scored a whopping one goal over the rest of his first season in Pittsburgh. Niskanen was deep in Marc Crawford's doghouse, and was just OK when he first came over to Pittsburgh.

The first full year after the trade was obviously lopsided toward Pittsburgh. Neal
blossomed and Niskanen got his career back on track. Goligoski started out last year on fire but then got injured (broken hand) and never really had his A game after he got back.

So far this year, Neal is scoring a lot of goals but really hasn't played THAT great overall (though I'm sure he'll be fine). Niskanen played well til he got hurt. Goligoski has struggled but should eventually be OK.

You watch a bunch more of the Stars than I do Bill. So I will defer to you here, but how often does a team make one of their best d-men a healthy scratch? And in a shortened season to boot.

I have to imagine if the Stars could take this trade back, they would. Perhaps that is hindsight, but I remember when the trade first went down I think the general consensus was Pittsburgh made out like bandits.

Wild guess here, no facts to back it up at all but I would guess 5 mil.

If it's higher than $4mm, I'd be mildly upset. Hope it's around $3mm

I've seen others say the opposite so take with a grain of salt.

I've heard a few others mention that it's not the deep, and then others that say it's the deepest draft since 2003.

My thinking was one of: He is our #1 and if they don't want him testing the market then they would need to offer a solid dollar amount.

I think 4 mil is to low.

I'm still on the side of it's deep but with 4 plus months to go & over analyzing to happen I'm sure this will be a common theme.

it'd be nice if it's in the 3 mil range, but I agree.. may be closer to 5. For one year.. that's fine.

I sure hope it's not 5M, that way too high. I would hope for 3-4M. Closer to the 3 he's making now, preferably.

Im thinking/hoping its low. He knows this team needs to make a big splash in the offseason....

Cant pay him more than 4.
