He was far to general in his statement. Hockey has no class barriers. It's not about who "buys" tickets. Big companies/corporations buy the tickets and give them to their clients for the most part. For him to say that hockey games in Toronto is reserved for the upper middle class is bullpoop. Be basically saying "well we buy the tickets and all the real fans can kiss my ass". And to suggest that the people in the platinums are were and are hockey players is also ridiculous. Im sure a lot of them have played hockey, but not anymore than any of the other fans at the game. It's just the attitude i don't like.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Who gets corporate tickets from the company? What socio-economic class would you put them in?

Toronto's the most expensive city to watch hockey in. If you're not middle-class or up, you're probably not gonna be catching too many live games... and hell even if you do have the money, it's still pretty damned expensive.

Family of 4 can't get tickets for under $300, unless they're standing room, or restricted view seats.

And that's talking about the (frank)ing bleeds.

Same family of 4 looking at buying front-row seats will be blowing the average household's monthly income on the seats alone, forget dinner or parking.

And the bolded is worse than anything he wrote. Why aren't upper-middle class people "real fans"?

If hockey has no class barriers, why is it fair for you to assume that people who own neckties aren't "real fans."

Can a guy not make $100,000 a year and still be a "real fan?"

He literally said none of that. For the most part, hockey has become a very expensive sport - depending which side of the boarder of income you sit on - and yes, many of those folks are hockey fans regardless of their economic status.

As far as Leafs fans being more sophisticated... that's questionable.

The Fourth Period reports the #Penguins are looking for a winger to play with Malkin and are interested in #Leafs Nikolai Kulemin

What can we possibly get for kulemin from the pens of his value

Hockey Tracker ‏@Hockey_tracker

The Fourth Period reports the Pittsburgh #Penguins had 2 scouts at last night's #Caps #Leafs game

- Mapleleafs_91

Do the Penguins still have Staal?

Oh Lord, please tell me they still have Staal.

He'd be perfect on the Leafs. If we had a big centre like that, there's no way we lose that game on Monday against Carolina.

not that I like to discuss random trade tweets from what are most likely teens in their parents basement...

Unless it was an overpayment of sorts, I dont see the point in dealing Kuli.
Is he worth a 1st rounder? Def a late 1st I would think, the odds of you getting someone better out of a trade like this is slim. So what a prospect and a 2nd?
If its for anything less, I dont see the point

Maybe, but I know some jackasses that are industrious or/and smart, so to speak, but I would never call them sophisticated.

I'm not referring to proper usage of utensils at dinner parties and what wine they serve at their summer house on Lake Joseph.

I'm referring to their level of understanding of the game, i.e., they won't cheer for an off-side call.

Depends the prospect, like a maata or despres or morrow? and a 2nd? or a straight up trade for pouliot even if we have to add a bit, but i doubt pens trade him, hes like the rielly for them

I'm sure some are.. But also i'm sure a lot aren't, or have even been to a hockey game. Leafs home games are becoming so corporate that it's affecting the product on the ice, which in return is affecting the moral of the rest of the fans. I never really meant to blow up on you. It's all about money and not about the game. For those of us who grew up in a small town in northern ontario who would never miss a game, now don't get to see them because SN or Leafs tv or whoever decides that it would be more profitable to make us pay for it. There is a massive spin off on all this.

I have no idea what the Penguins have on their farm, but I'd take a blue-chip centre prospect. No 4th rounder needed.

thats all well and good, but the leafs home games could use a lil more of the rowdy drunk element as well

not taking anything away from understanding the game, but its a sporting event, not a musical, a step away from the toronto conservative nature wouldnt hurt.

you mentioned playoffs earlier. yes. more like that in the season as well.
