“We don’t want to put a player in a situation where he could possibly regress. That was our message to him: That he did nothing wrong. He has NHL quality skills. Does he need to work on some things? Sure he does.

I said Kessel has been among the top goal scorers the past 4 seasons, and has put together 4 consecutive 30 goal seasons in a row. Something few players have done in that span, which makes him close to, if not already there, being an elite scorer. Specifically, doing it by the age of 25.

Ryder at 32 has never done that in his career. When you consider Kessels linemates have been Bozak and Crabb at times, thats quite an accomplishment.

Only 2% of the players in the league have done that the last 4 years.

edit: it was in an article recently and that was for 3 years, it drops to about 1.2% for 4 years.
