I never said he would be the saviour.. I think he gives us a better chance of winning than Holzer, fraser, or even Kostka.. Or maybe even liles. - Arctic_AARDVARK

So you're going to torch this kid's career to get a modest upgrade over those guys?
And you must be joking about Liles. The fact that you'd expect him to come in and be 3rd on our depth chart already speaks volumes about the "savior" mentality. |

I'd rather have a good defenceman (Rielly) and a good #1 centre than two good defencemen and Bozak at centre. |

And what about our need for a #1 C?
Just ignore that? Getting Rielly was great, but we need to address our need for a C of the future. Only need 6 guys playing D, and 12 forwards. With Gards and Rielly, the D looks like it has potential, but the forward group especially up the middle needs to be addressed. |

It was pretty hilarous how he entered the thread last night literally 10 seconds after we lost. Like I said, he's become just a caricature now. - Leeman4Gilmour
You guys should know by now, he only appears after a loss, shouldn't be a big surprise to any one;
It is now perfectly clear that anyone disrupting the threads will be subjected to a ban, we stopped this because of the lockout but it has become very evident that it is a problem once again. |

Put Rielly out for a few shifts against Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and then tell us all about what it looks like to suck. |

I hear Carlyle's pretty transparent about his reasons for doing things, just not sure if any media guys asked him last night wtf was up with that. I'm only theorizing based on his comments this morning about giveaways, he was referring to Kadri in the 2nd period....I just want to be sure. I'd also follow it up with asking why the other two give away trios were given longer ropes.
Like it may also have had to with faceoffs in the defensive zone, and Kadri having a miserable stat line last night there.
And seriously, Carlyle has to rethink when he puts his fourth line out and which d-pairing they go out there with. - mykokes
I bet the media guys didn't even notice the TOI. The time to bench two guys that have been producing, in order teach a lesson or make a point, isn't when the team is behind. And why give longer ropes to others - seems random.
I find the timing of some of Carlyle's decisions to be 'off.' Your example of the d-pairing with the 4th line is a good example. |

I don't think it would happen, but I'd like to see him get stronger. Just an opinion. I still have nightmares about Gary Nylund and Jim Benning....ESPECIALLY JIM BENNING. |

You could write books about rushed prospects. Defensemen might be the hardest to develop of all positions.
An 18 year old would get absolutely chewed up on this team. |

And have no wingers a la Sundin? No thanks, keep building. We need to add talent, not make lateral moves.
Besides, what #1C is coming back for Kessel? Toews? Malkin? Crosby? Staal? ...not happening. |

I'm not entirely sure what he did to earn that demotion. The guy has been playing about as well as you could hope as an effective bottom pairing d-man.
He never cost us a game as badly as Kostka + Holzer, who did everything in their power - right up to literally putting the puck in our net - to throw last night's for us. - Leeman4Gilmour
Mike Kosted us the game |

His good training camp. Carlyles word. His dominance in the WHL - Arctic_AARDVARK
His training camp was not as good as the guys who are currently on the Leafs.
Carlyle said that he needs to go back to juniors to develop further.
Dominating the WHL simply isn't evidence that an 18-year-old can play in the NHL.
Did he stand out at the WJC?

11 games later:
"This kid Rielly absolutely effing sucks. I'm sick of losing. Why don't they trade his sorry ass for a veteran who can handle the puck back there like it isn't a grenade? Seriously, let's get some vets in here, and win now!"

No.... Carlyle said he did nothing wrong in training camp and they have to go with the guys who have contracts. |
