Seriously? This is why people hate Leaf threads.
Bobby Ryan for Kessel - why would Anaheim do that?
And junk for Backstrom isn't going to cut it.
Just because you want to unload a player doesn't make it possible.

- dawgzhouse

Bobby Ryan requested a trade, that's why Anaheim would do it, his trade value isn't at its absolute highest. The Kessel for Bobby Ryan trade is actually pretty fair, you're making a problem out of nothing with that one.

Playing more of Kadri and Frattin will disrupt the subtle tank

Sounds like the NY Islanders may be talking trade with a team in Western Canada (e3) Blog to come.

2 1sts, Gaunce and Kassian?

No team is going to pay that...

- systemtool

1st overall would belong to the Leafs. It's their own pick. It's what they will probably get if they trade Kessel, Lupul and Phaneuf. The other picks and prospects come from the return they get from other teams.

if that deal was on the table i'd jump all over it

but then again i really like gaunce.

- Dozzer

There is definitely at least a couple contending teams that need goal scoring and can afford to trade away top prospects and 1st round picks. Just a matter of seeing who is in the hunt at the deadline.

Trade Phaneuf and Kessel for picks/prospects. The team is going nowhere with these 2.

van Riemsdyk doesn't deserve 1st line minutes. He gets 20 minutes and you don't even know he's on the ice. Grabovski and Kessel can't play together. Both want the puck on their stick at all times.

Frattin / Kadri / Kessel (Kid Line)
Kulemin / Grabovski / Komarov (USSR Line)
van Riemsdyk / Bozak / MacArthur (Refurbished line)

- Two_For_Truth

I think that's part of Kessel's problem personally, that he's handling the puck too much, how many more times do i have to watch him cross the blueline and take a shot that goes nowhere. Long run you're probably right, but its never been tried. I stuck JVR there because he's got decent hands.

If either Fraser or Holzer starts ahead of Komi tonight, I will be 100% convinced that the Leafs goal for the season is to tank as much as possible.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!
Kessel hasn't scored in 9 games....oh my gawd its the end of the world.

Kessel not scoring is the least of the leafs problems.

All this trade talk about him is just stupid.

The same people on here crying about how bad the leafs play were the same people begging for the leafs to tank.

This team is bad....if you didn't know that....give your head a shake.

But.
We have some decent pieces on the team...we have a good back up goalie in Reimer, two or three decent D pieces, one great goal scorer (who's not scoring) and some young 1b, 2b, 3a and grit players (Lupul, Kessel, JVR, Kadri, Frattin, Komarov, Grabo, and Brown) along with some prospects in the system.
But right now...at least half the team (if not more) is garbage...nothing new.
Unless Kessel has said he wont be resigning...you do not trade him.
Simple.
Move on.

I better get the the necessary gigwatts power supply ready for the DeLorean so I can see who we will be getting with the 1st overall pick, you know, just to make sure.

Poor guy has no choice. Neither JVR or Bozak can bring the puck in over the blue line.

Yes, just like that.

You just finished arguing that Kessel is an elite goal scorer and yet now that we're talking about what he could be traded for, he's not going to get anything in return?

Without Kessel, Lupul and Phaneuf this team tanks hard. The 1st or 2nd overall pick belongs to the Leafs simply by getting rid of them. What they get for them just adds to the depth of the prospect pool.

That's the point. Make a bad team a little worse and gather up a bunch of picks and prospects while they do it.

Kessel is being very selfish with the shots he's taking. His linemates, good or bad, aren't being used as much. That means all the other team has to do is collapse on Kessel and wait for him to take a bad shot into shin pads and sticks.

Why would the Leafs? A 26 year old Bobby Ryan for a 25 year old Phil Kessel?

Bobby Ryan and his 57 points last year for Phil Kessel and his 82 points?

The whole reason for that Kessel debate was a reason why they shouldnt trade him for the sake of trading him.

The point is that this team is not going to do that, so we might as well be argueing the merits of Stamkos and Malkin being traded here for Komisarek if we're going to ignore the logic and the words of Nonis himself.

Kessel is also under rated around the league, and the cap is going down next year, not up. Plus the fact Kessel is still only 25, so not exactly the type of player you trade when trying to rebuild. Lupul is injured, hes got very little value and he was just signed. Hes not being traded. Nonis is going to be patient, but hes also not trying to start a long tank job, especially with the new owners who want to win now and make as much money as they possibly can. They wont be interested either.

Did anyone ask Carlyle last night what was up with kadri and frattin getting 2 minutes in the third period down by a goal? Was it the two giveaways in the 2nd period?
- mykokes

his fat head made him unable to decide on who to put out, so he tossed out Orr and the boys so they could ice the puck.

sometimes i wonder..
