I was so annoyed when he went on that rant about "Who are you going to replace Ruff with." Just a bit of research on the last 3 Stanley Cup Champions:

Los Angeles Kings: GM Dean Lombardi was hired in 2006 after ownership cleared house. Darryl Sutter hired mid-season in 2011.

Boston Bruins: Mike O'Connell was fired in 2006 after a series of trades did not work in their favor (made playoffs 3 times and won the division twice during his tenure). Hired Peter Chiarelli in 2006 and hired Claude Julien in 2007.

Chicago Blackhawks: Dale Tallon was fired in 2009 and replaced by Stan Bowman. Denis Savard was fired in 2008 and replaced by Joel Quenneville.

Bottom line is Sabres brass are just not doing their job. All of these teams identified changes need to be made and made them, yet the Sabres are consistently fine with R&R.

I think that Hawks team would have won with anyone so thats why I said not him.
- hubie

ok.. i tend to agree with that to a certain extent, i don't think they would have won with the way enroth has been playing.

COHo reminds me of a young Pat LaFontaine. I grew up a huge Islanders fan and I remember watching Patty La grow into a superstar. I can see Cody's career path having a similar trajectory. They also have a very similar size and skill set.

He was splitting time in 05/06. I guess my point is you don't need elite goaltending. You need 'hot' goaltending with solid D.

another example is Detroit. Hasek didn't win that Cup, Howard did.

Think of the goaltenders that won it and if they were Seasoned/Veteran Elite back then.

There are exceptions of course (NJ)

- RynoBull

Osgood did. Howard was up for ROY with Myers in 09/10. They won the cup in 07/08.

And the worst part of it when someone does call in (ive known several who have) about say the draft and people have insite they just say somethign along the lines of oh ive never seen them play or I dont know about that player. They wont listen and just shut you off
- hubie

They are a joke IMO, I literally laugh out loud listening to them. Schopp thinks he's some sort of deep thinker who analyzes the game yet has nothing to say that is not blatantly obvious or media-biased.

Top half. So we need a top half goalie. Not top 10. Both were not considered anything special before their stanley cup years

Ward like Howard are top half of the league goalies

The Osgood cups always puzzeled me but hey it worked.

- hubie

osgood was behind a good team and was good enough to win himself. not flashy, but basically boucher would have been the same thing had philly beat chicago. i kind of look at these guys like anomalies due to hard work, the old "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." not the most talented guys but they worked their tails off to be good enough to stay in the league time and time again.

i think you guys give him a bad rap.

his main job is to facilitate because bulldog cannot do that, he is personable but is tangential. mike has to give the discussion order or it would go off the rails. he is also really opinionated, which is fine because he's a sports radio host and that's what they need to do. people not liking schopp doesn't mean he's bad at his job, it just means they don't like him and and probably don't agree with him too, and both of those things may or may not be together. he does cross the line more than he should though, but to be fair, some real idiots call that show and his short fuse is usually when people come in looking for a fight or say something unbelievably stupid.

- FIREonICE

Give me Jeremy or Joe. At least they are funny and amuse me with their opinions. Mike has a better than thou attitude.

he also needs to be a guy teammates WANT to play in front of. miller has alienated this team and i dont think anyone wants to go the extra mile for him.

if they screw up he will call them out!!! whens the last time you heard a player from any team say the goalie needed to be better? there are some unwritten rules and miller breaks them regularly...

any goalie in detriot during the lidstrom time did not need to be great. Detriot was a puck control team and played solid defense. Teams didn't get too many shots on goal and many of them were from the outside.

Schopp would have you believe that doesn't matter. It does. That is why I say Miller will not be resigned.

That is not the point. To do the same thing over and over and expect different results is , well, exactly what the Sabres do every year.

They attract ignorant people because they are ignorant. No one with any knowledge or thoughtful opinion would dare to disagree with Schopp unless they just want to be cut-off and dismissed

jeremy is an idiot. he always has a "omg my idea is so awesome and obvious, listen to my idea for 10 minutes!" attitude. i think it's kind of funny you don't like schopp but are cool with jeremy.

its not about scouting reports. its about being sharp. scouting reports dont tell you to shoot 5 hole on a short butterfly goalie, but thats where he gets beat. lots of goals hit and go through because he is not sharp. who could be in buffalo???

that's not true, schopp really likes when people come on with thoughtful responses and will either say "okay, i disagree but i like your argument" or "okay, cool, thanks for bringing that up, i didn't think of that.

he gets pissed when people have really wild or stupid arguments and then gets mad when they think he's being a jerk about it.

every once in a while he goes off the handle on someone that doesn't deserve it, but usually it's deserved because that person is either looking for a fight or is just an idiot.
