Another thing we need to do is finish each period. How many goals have we given up in the last minute of a period?

Minny only has 9 points and like us they only have 1 line scoring

Suter was a minus 6 too. I wonder if they should sit him in the press box.

We need to play in the 2nd period.. that is where we have given up the most goals.

It won't be long before this organization turns into a mess. Obviously only winning can turn things around, and even if that happens I think we all know this isn't a team that's poised for a deep run for the cup. Pegula and Co. have totally shot themselves in the foot with "Lindy aint going no where" and a Darcy extension. You can't fire one without the other without receiving fan backlash. We are lucky to have Pegula as an owner but I'm not impressed with his vocal selections (ie "3 year process", "Lindy aint going no where", "multiple Stanley Cups"), though it's nice to hear that as a fan, you are only setting yourself up for a tremendous amount of negative fan pressure when it doesn't come into plan as it is so far.

i agree, i think people's counterpoint mostly revolves around just wanting to win a faceoff when you need to and being bad at them usually means that doesn't happen.
- FIREonICE

I'll take Malkin and his 47% F/O win percentage over Malhotra's 58% any day of the week. The only "stud C’s" that are good at face-offs are: Towes, Bergeron, Pavelski and there % is only 59%. Next to +/- most overhyped stat.

Hockey Hotline is absolutely nu-listenable. Kevin and Pete have just as many excuses as to why the sabres are losing as the pathetic team themselves. I wish someone would just stand up and speak the truth. Darcy has had 13 years to build a contending team and is no closer than when he signed his first contract. They still don't have center ice position filled, our defense is the softest in the NHL.... WTF
We have BY FAR the quietest arena in the entire league. This is not something that happened overnight.
It's time for changes. Now.

At one point EDM last night won 15 of 50 faceoffs. I'll take Gagner and RNH anyday

We have great fans and sell-out every game, it's just that the team gives nothing to be loud and excited about.

Yeah, Toronto's fan are louder in our arena than Buffalo fans. What are you talking about?

You just made my point. If Vanek goes out this team is nothing. You win games by scoring more goals then the other team. They have lost 6-1, 3-1, 3-2. You won't win too many games by scoring 1 or 2 goals. Sometimes Miller is average, you're 2-4 lines have to be steadily on the score sheet for you to win games. Defense is a huge problem right now, but secondary scoring is 1A then

I think people only care about faceoffs when your loosing in the last couple mins of the game. Does anyone care if we win or loose the opening faceoff?
- hubie

yeah that makes sense, that's exactly what i was thinking when i was thinking of those faceoffs people would want to win.

for some reason i remember our late 90s/very early 2000s team being very good at that and then pulling it back to woolley or zhitnik and usually tying it up.

Just thought about this but has anyone heard any news on Leino? I know he was placed on IR but that was almost 2 weeks ago. I haven't heard anything about him since.

Agree. Faceoffs are important, but around 50% is fine.

Right but where did the 3 goals come from in the games we lost? The Vanek line. If he was playing even like a regular 1st line player, we would have lost the BOS, PHI, and TOR game.
- sbroads24

I'm just saying D is our biggest problem. Look at San Jose. The are 7-1-1 and Marleau has more guys than their 2nd, 3rd and 4th line forwrds combined and they only have 4 goals from their defensemen. They have only given up 15 goals in 9 games though.

yesterday lindy sort of indicated that he may not play all season, it doesn't look good. i think they're exhausting options before inevitable hip surgery, which could work out since he already had one side of his hip worked on already and responded well.

I think the early report of Cody is that he is a fine #1 Center. He looks the part, and his line is on fire. Coinsidence? Maybe. I think he has a large part in it though.

Beginning of the season, before it started all of us on here were listing our top 5 concerns with the team. I was maybe the only person who had defensive consistency as my #1 concern, mostly everyone elses was Miller. I know I'm a Myers defender but i was worried about the group as a whole too. I honestly thought scoring would have been a little better.

I bet he hope he is. If he gets bought out he'll get 27 million for 1 years worth of hockey. Nice!

Right but they are #2 in the league in goals per game.
