On the subject of cool analytical data, my bro has a pretty cool Hawk column up using some fun numbers...
http://thecommittedindian...gry-at-numbers/#more-2297 - yahoodi
Saad is, like, last in the league among forwards in actually scoring. But whatever floats your boat.
So his Adjusted Corsi on Tuesdays through Thursdays following national holidays ion Waziristan makes him one of the top 25 forwards in the NHL.
BFD.
The actual results say he's a rookie who's coming along, but also a work in progress.

Hey John, love the articles. Always look forward to a quick read when I get to the office in the morning.
Have you heard anything on Steve Montador's status? I know he has become somewhat forgettable with the new found defensive depth this year and the D playing well (so far) but I think he would be a welcome late season/playoff addition as a 7th or 8th depth D-Man - The_Councillor
Thank you.
I have heard he might be done. But likely as they have no absolute need to dispense with him or his contract right now, they are going to wait it out because defensive depth is very valuable come playoff time. |

If the Hawks did buy out Monty how much more cap space would the Hawks have ? |

Another good article JJ!
A few things, 1. Will the Toews situation be answered tonight? And, which line for San Jose scares you the most? Besides Jagoff Joe's. |

nothing against the guy, but if thats the truth, they hawks caught a major break. his contract was, to say, less than desirable

Vagina Joe Thornton doesn't really get too catty until he starts getting frustrated. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Q tries to go w/the 3rd line against them all night, since that's been the hot line for the Sharks.
I'd also be shocked if Q doesn't have some words w/the refs about what happened last year, pointing out the Sharks propensity to be bullies against two guys on the same line w/concussion issues. |

I sincerely doubt there will be any retaliation. And although I put Bollig on the projected lineup, I could very easily see him in the press box and 22 on the ice.

Completely agree. Tough Matchup for the hawks even though Kruger with Frolik and maybe mayers is still a pretty responsible line defensively if they get stuck out there with the top three

Funny, in the summer of 2011, when the Hawks spent $2 million on Brunette, I thought they should/would get Handzus (strictly for 3/4 line help). I was vilified on Twitter by someone who will remain nameless because he had been told by someone from the Kings (allegedly) that Handzus was done.
Now two years later, the big horse is still doing what he does.
I love how some guys think because they saw someone play for a season or two on CSN Chicago—and likely nowhere else— that encapsulates the guy's whole career. |

Wow, no idea.
Strongly doubt it will be a blow out (there's a bold prediction).
I'm gonna say 3-2 Sharks in the shootout

Looking forward to see if the Hawks have properly rested and regained those legs like you mentioned John. If not, she could be a long night.
Here's my latest piece on HI: http://hockeyindependent.com/blog/ty_cam/49389/ - hopefully this long road trip has served it's purpose in terms of bonding as well. Could go a long way later in the season! |

Safe bet going with a shootout. These games are always tight, 1 goal games.
Tonight will be the first time in 4 years I haven't gone down to the tank to see the games. So I'll be spared the douchy-ness and won't have to listen to 13k annoying sharks fans. instead, I'll just have to listen to one...my girlfriend. |

With all these games going to shoot outs it will be interesting to see how this impacts the tie breakers at the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few ties in the standings when the regular season is done. |

RE: Thornton / Bollig
Why in earth would Thornton engage there? Yes Bollig is a tough guy who would most likely feed Joey T his lunch, but more importantly- on what planet is having Thornton and Bollig each sit for 5 even close to a fair swap?
Joe would have to be brain dead on multiple levels to engage. He's not dumb. It won't happen. |

True. I think what more people are hinting at is that it would not surprise me to see the Hawks take liberties with Thornton every chance they get. My x factor tonight is Ryan Clowe. He has been a target by other teams to lure him into a bad penalty and the refs have had his number this year. If the PP wasnt so pitiful as of late, then maybe this could be an advantage. Needless to say, THE HAWKS NEEED TO STAY OUT OF THE BOX!!! |

The suggestions about the possibility of going after Thronton are the same as what the Canucks fans were saying about going after Keith on Friday. Just play the game, get 2 points and put more distance between us and the Sharks in the standings. Don't focus on Joe, if we do we lose. |

Guys, this isn't high school. Like the gang is obsessed with how they are gonna get one of the other guys. You play to gain points. If the situation provides an opportunity, you take it. More importantly, the way you mitigate Joe from being dumb or any player, is you take advantage of giving Couture or Pavelski or Havlat a rough ride or too. You can not intimidate Joe Thornton, but you can make the game uncomfortable for other guys. |

Yes, he won't engage. But that's not the point. It's keeping him from pulling $hit with 19 & 81. Remember last season how he and others roughed up our stars. That'll stop right then and there if Jammer is put out there with them. |

I'm not sure Mayers scares many people anymore. He's slow as $hit. Putting him on the line w/Toews and Hoss may slow them down. So instead of messing with the lines, I think Q goes w/checking line against Vajay-jay Joe's line. |

I get what your saying and yes, Thornton can't be intimidated. But a Seabrook or Bollig or Mayers can finish a hit on him every time he is on the ice to let him know that his antics will not be tolerated with our top players. |
