Meh, I guess that the job is to get hits. That can either be done by being a really respectable guy for the abomination of a franchise whose team banned their neighbouring team's fans from wearing jerseys in the arena the last time they were in the playoffs...

.... or by being a troll blogger for a team that everybody loves to hate, but may be the best chance this country has at a cup for however long it take Edmonton to figure out WTF they're doing with their defense

Tell me about that. We may be the one of the AHL favourites while also being first in line for a shot at jones/mackinnon in the big show.

I'm yet to know how I feel about this (especially after tonight's game).

I'll let you know when the nausea wears off

EDIT: or when the wine does

Ranford was elite, Fuhr just had the ability to come up big in the playoffs and the 80's Oilers could outscore just about any defensive gaffes they'd commit. Fuhr had a five hole bigger than a Thai hooker's cooch, but he did have a great glove hand that stole the Oilers games, especially against the Flames back when the Flames actually were relevant.

You know what they say... Pwned for Jones, $hittin' for McKinnon, Pooing for Droiun, etc and so forth. Besides, it can't be any worse right... at least you're not Columbus... ... ... yeah, I'll just stop there and leave you to your sorrows man.

I mean....ya, there's all of that.

Seriously, are you laying this out there for a barrage of "you wouldn't know how important that is would you?" bull$hit.

You gotta give Fuhr more then that - he was clutch A LOT during the regular season.
I'd like to see any goalie play with those pads nowadays.

Great playoff goalie, average regular season goalie, see:

- Cam Ward
- Jose Theodore
- Chris Osgood
- Jimmy Howard
- Ryan Miller
- Nikolai Khabibulin
- Dwayne Roloson

Coffey was too busy potting hat-tricks on Garrett to give a fukk about a backcheck.

Hmmm, I'd like to see other goalies numbers from that time.
I'm still pretty sure Fuhr weren't at the top though...

(frank). Thats worse than Glenn Healy.

I thought that nobody was worse than Healy at anything.

I guess this was back when people scored like 70-80 goals a season though, so maybe not easy to compare to today's numbers

I (well, my dad really) had season's tickets to the Canucks from 83 until they moved to then GM Place, so I saw a LOT of Grant Fuhr over the years. He was the type of goalie who cared little for the regular season, only as getting in shape for the playoffs (which admittedly he was great in).

Oilers still would have won all those cups with Garrett in net.

Ranford and Fuhr, right time right place.

Grant Fuhr

NHL totals:

Games Played: 868
Wins: 403
Losses: 295
Ties: 114
Minutes: 48,945
Goals Against: 2,756
Shutouts: 25
Goals Against Average: 3.38
Save Percentage: .887

Now let's look at a real elite goalie from the same era, Patrick Roy

Patrick Roy

NHL Totals

Games Played: 1029
Wins: 551
Losses: 315
Ties: 131
Minutes: 60225
Goals Against: 2546
Shutouts: 66
Goals Against Average: 2.54
Save Percentage: .912

Shall I list all of Patrick Roy's awards/accomplishments?

EDIT: Oh, and Patrick Roy played on some horrible Montreal teams until the early 90's and yet still put up numbers without the scoring help that Fuhr did.

But we are talking two seperate eras. Dead Puck vs Run and Gun.

I remember that Fuhr had his house in Edmonton. On his driveway he has an Oiler Symbol painted on it.

What about the cocaine abuse? No one seems to talk about that.

This is not BS....

trust me, any Oilers fans from that era are well aware. the entire team were notorious hard partiers. if they hadn't been, they likely would have set even more records.

Dead puck era didn't start until after the 94 lockout, when New Jersey with Brodeur won the first of their Cups. Fuhr and Roy were in their primes during the Run and Gun era. I left out Brodeur because he started the Dead Puck era, and that was his prime years so not as good comparison.

I dont think anyone will argue Roy is better. Fuhr played 5 NHL seasons before Roy came in though, so comparing them along time lines isnt perhaps entirely accurate.

But they played together, and unlike skaters who have shorter career spans, goalies tend to play into their late 30's even early 40's so it's as fair of a comparison as I can make. Again, I could probably list several goalies from that era to make my point (like Vernon, Moog, Smith, Hextall), all of whom would have similar numbers to Fuhr in the regular season. The point I was trying to make was that Fuhr (while a GREAT playoff goalie and his numbers bear that out) was not elite because he did not dominate in the regular season as well as the playoffs and that it can't all be accounted for Edmonton's willingness to have their defensemen jump into the rush and leave Fuhr to deal with the odd-man rushes/breakaways that would occur when they turned the puck over.

i agree, the dead puck era may have started mid 90s, but Roy played 80% of his games there and Fuhr played 20% (tops)

I still think Roy was better but I do not agree with head to head stats for these guys.

Why not compare Billy Smith to Ron Hextal?
