The Flames plan is to rebuild while remaining competitive and entertaining. From a fans perspective this is the best plan possible considering the amount people pay to do to the games. Completely tanking for 6 straight years (going on 7 probably) is pretty gutless by ownership considering how much the charge for "entertainment". It's not all about playoffs, it's more about playing meaningful games late in the regular season. At least it's exciting, at least there's a reason to watch, at least there is something on the line. Watching the oilers the past 6 years is like making a farmers bet. - The-O-G[/quot
Thanks. I see this as their direction as well. I think for this to be successful it will require outstanding drafting. If the goal is to rebuild while remaining competitive, it would mean drafting around 15th. There have been many great players that were drafted much lower than that, but I am not sure it will be any quicker than what the Oilers did. Not sure what teams think but I believe the goal is not meaningful game, but the Stanley Cup. Appreciate your post...

twice in their entire franchise history is always??? cool typical flames troll, trying to get as many jabs in as they can before they're stuck watching their own team finish last while we compete for cups instead of compete for 8th..... must be hard to come up with jokes and ways to troll the Oilers still, that's probably why all you idiots sound exatly the same |

...dont you guys get sick of having the same arguments every week? (Honest question)
Just about any blog I write I get the same back and forth between Flames/Oiler fans...we could try and discuss the blog itself a little more, maybe? |

Okay I have a serious question. Why would the Flames not just blow it up? Why would they want a slow rebuild? The only reason I can think of is, that their fans would not support a losing franchise the way Edm fans did. Through the worst of times, Edmonton still packed its building.

Im not sure where Iggy goes, but do you think he forces a trade? Im not trolling, but the guy deserves a shot at the cup. How about he pulls a Weight and gets moved to a contender at the deadline, and come back to the Flames? |

Because it's just not good business, especially with how much it costs to go to a game these days. It's also pretty much telling your fans that you don't trust your employees with the task of building a winner unless you constantly get "gimme" draft picks.

No man...he loves the Flames and the City. I think that any trade would be initiated by the team, who would then go to Iggy for the OK. |

In my honest opinion, Iginla will do whatever the team feels is best. If they approach him and asks if he'll consider a move to a playoff contending team, I think he will work with them on it. Will he approach the team and demand a trade? No, I dont think he would put them in that position.
Iginla will continue to play hockey and work his damnedest to help this team win until the day comes where Calgary either approaches him to extend his contract, or to ask him to entertain a trade. |

Business is about selling tickets.... If the fans still support your team during the rough years and it takes ... say 6 years to build a winner, why would you not do that? I am not saying that Flames have bad fans, because that is the furthest from the truth. I do believe that Calgary would not support a hockey team that placed last or second to last over a 3 year period the way Edm fans did. I have lived in both cities... Calgary currently... There is no doubt that Calgary Fans that attend games are more white collar. Edmonton has more blue collar.

There's a difference between good business and bad business...also your argument is fairly weak, you state the Flames are awful, need to rebuild etc etc etc. but also claim the fan base won't support their team despite the fact the dome is always full. Something doesn't add up. I'm pretty sure the Flames are in the top 10 of all pro sports for current consecutive sell-out streaks, although I do not know where to find this info. The fans will always be there. |
