carlyle needs to sit him down with two tapes
one with what he is doing now
one with what he does when he is scoring
show him the obvious difference - Dozzer
And then put him with Frattin and Kadri. |

IMO Kessel needs a powerforward on his line to make him some room, one who is a threat to score... - ShootingSemin
He just needs Lupul back. He opened up plenty space for him last year. |

kessel needs to stop waiting for the perfect linemates and start driving the net.. his speed will carry him to the shooting slots he needs to be in
wrist shots from 20 feet out arent going to cut it in this league |

I don't mind him getting a look on the second unit, but he does absolutely nothing with Phaneuf and the first PP unit. I'm not even sure Gardiner would work there. I have no idea who to use on the points for the PP. Franson? - mykokes
As bad as he has sucked this year, Liles is the only guy who is remotely qualified to be there.
2nd PP unit doesn't even matter right now. They get garbage minutes most of the time and can't even get the zone before the PP is over. |

Lupul hurts pretty bad, JvR although not the same, should almost have the same effect. They were playing pretty good together to. JvR was very, very quiet tonight. |

when kessel is scoring he takes the puck to the middle of the ice in front of the net.. takes the bit of physical play from the d-man but ultimately his speed carries him through
he is playing the exact same game when he has difficulty scoring.. staying to the outside
did you see him on the PP? i swear i saw him circle the zone without passing or shooting the puck at least 3 or 4 times tonight
brutal.. take it to the net - Dozzer
I think there's a difference between 'taking the puck to the net' and 'taking the puck to the middle of the ice in front of the net'.
I don't think he can take the puck to the net...it's unreasonable to expect him to become a gritty winger...that's not his make up.
What he needs is someone that'll open up space for him to get to the middle of the ice (high slot area) where he was so effective last year. |

I don't think JVR has the same tenacity (yes I used that word) as Lupul.
Lups garnered a lot more attention from other teams D. |

ok thats not what i am trying to say
by take it to the net i dont mean to physically over power guys and drive the net
i mean use his speed, take the shove he is going to get (you go there in the NHL there is going to be contact), and get into the slot.
he is far more effective shooting from there.
he has had plenty of space.. look at the PP time he's bloody well getting
he is simply choosing bad spots to shoot from. |

I agree that it's one dimensional and predictable as (frank)...the question is, does Kessel have the make up to change his game in such a way to start scoring more goals.
I personally don't think so. I think he needs Lupul more than anyone wanted to admit...he opened up space for him that he hasn't had with JVR as his linemate (and that's not taking anything away from JVR, I think he's played great). - Pen15
I think it can, for sure. Kessel has so many tools. His speed, and his hands allow for many variations to his game. Both are high end. His passing game has always been wildly underrated to. He can make adjustments to play a much better game. If he's ever going to be a steady impact player in the NHL, he's going to need to adapt.
I think kadri's creativity, his ability to make plays from nothing at high speeds could enhance JVR and kessels games, both of em. Bozak does not strike you as a player two opposing players need to attack to force over the puck. Kadri has that potential, and its going to draw coverage away from one of the two. Kadri's play in the corners has the potential to create more turnovers for the duo as well.
Don't like splitting up kadri from frattin though. |

Two hottest players plus most talented player equals results.
At worst, Kessel gets his first goal. |

That seems like a fairly decent adjective for Lupul, compared to JvR. Lupul could skate through the slot and not be knocked off stride, while still taking 2 sticks with his body across the way. |

I think he's placed on the half boards on the pp because he's being asked to create...but I agree he can try a little more of that on the PP.
In terms of 5 on 5 though, I don't think he's had much of an opportunity to cut and get into the middle of the ice. Other team's D have been zoning in primarily on him, and keeping him to the boards. |
