You're 100% wrong about that. The average sv% in the NHL just before the lockout was about .906 to .908. It was over .910 last year. It dropped initially, it's higher than it ever was right now. |

Don't know if this is true, but if it is, perhaps we are in an era of exceptional goaltending.
The game has gotten much faster than the old school, late 90's, clutch and grab traps, and yet there are some remarkable goaltenders.
Perhaps it is possible for Price to be outside the top 10 (at times) and still be a very good goalie. And let's not forget that, despite a wealth of great goalies out there, Price has proven he can put his name in the top 5.
I just don't think an "average" goalie could be nominated for a Vezina, even if he played out of his mind. An average goalie doesn't get his name thrown in the discussion of who should start for Canada's Olympic team.

Price is a very good goalie, one of the better goalies in the league and easily top 10. Very likely top 5. Is he elite, no. But he's a damn good goalie and on his way to becoming one of the elite goalies. Lets move on, our team is playing. |
