Lol, I'm not saying to go out and sign all these guys, just one if they can will be good, Clowe or Clarkson on forwards and Murray on defense.
- LeafMan

I'd be cautious with Murray, he's got that whole Komi/Markov thing going with Boyle. We all know what happened to Komi

I think JVR has a lot more potential than Schenn.

Whether he realizes that potential, however....

But I will say this: he has a lot more chance of realizing it with Carlyle. If Wilson was still here, JVR would have been thrown under the bus by now.

- Atomic Wedgie

exactly, he and kadri would be on the marlies.

ya, you are right.
why would an inexperienced young, small team need an experienced, tough as nails veteran in their top six.
good call.

- Barx

Yeah, I don't understand, everyone says the Leafs are small up front, you have Clowe who plays tough as nail hockey, has size, grit and can score and will help a young lineup with a vet presence, isn't that what we need.

50-60 points per year with 100 PIMs?

Yeah, he is. Look up the top 3 scoring wingers on most rosters. Not every top liner scores 30/70 per year.

- Leeman4Gilmour

lmao no he isn't. He's a second line player, at best. Get out of here.

I love hockeybuzz, all of a sudden Ryan Clowe is a first line player on any team.

i dont know man.. i have watched 2 philly games this year and he seems to be just more of the same

i like the kid.. i really do and hope he gets out of his funk but i think his biggest priority should be defining his game and sticking to it

these visions of offense he seems to get just dont suit him

- Dozzer

Thank Wilson for that.

Younger Schenn was just making smart, accurate passes out of his zone, and was damn good at it... but the more Wilson worked on him, the more he got the idea that he had to rush it himself.

We are so used to mediocrity in Toronto now it's sad. Clowe will be over-paid and on a decent term, I don't mind the guy as a player, but Toronto doesn't need another 2nd/3rd line player. The whole roster is made up of the same kind of players, with only a few that are truly top line players. I don't want any part of Ryan Clowe, rather save the money and spend it elsewhere.
- blahman20

ya, none of whom can produce points, hits, and toughness.
you are so used to mediocrity that you can't see his value.

Didn't say he was.

You were saying he isn't a first liner on any team. I'm saying that there is at least one out there where he is. Probably 5-10.

His hits and offensive production is down now, guys like him play the game a certain way and it does have an effect long term. I knows its a short sample, look at the paths of Umberger and Morrow.

I'm just saying, he is EXACTLY the type of player this team has been missing for far too long.

Thanks mang, yeah totally! lol

Liquor before the game helps keep the wallet closed. Sometimes you can even sneak a beer in your jacket to get you through the first

Nice to see Kulemin shooting the puck again. Him and Nazeeem are tied for 3rd in shots on goal with 18.

Poor Kessel has 36 and can't buy a goal with his entire 27 million dollar contract

Sorry he might get some top line minutes on the absolute worst teams in the league, hell Toronto might be one of those teams, so maybe you're right!! Doesn't take away from the fact that clowe is going to ask for 4.5mil+ with at least 3-4 years. Not a guy I want paying that much for that amount of time. I'm not even saying he's a bad player, but to get excited for the potential of Ryan Clowe as a leaf is just funny to me.

thats what i mean.. if he takes a step back and re-evaluates his game and his strengths he could become a very capable stay at home guy

pair him with a strong PMD and just tell him to get the puck off his stick to his partner he could be a very steady d-man

but thats his ceiling imo.

Can we at least all agree that Carlyle is 1000x the coach Wilson was? It's so evident when you watch the team play.

So let me get this straight: you have access to a hockey cloning machine, and you place an order for 7 hockey players for the Leafs, and none of them are centres?

Please leave.

Immediately.

His age is a little concerning, but he fits a need to a tee.

Who was the last 20/50 player we had who put up 100+ PIMs and a truckload of hits?

Asa you said, he's a first liner on some teams, a third liner on none, and a solid second liner on a contender. That's the type of player I'd take any day.

Think you have the right idea LeafMan, just the wrong guy for the wrong time. Two years ago, he would be the right guy. You need to get these guys at 25/26 to enjoy the 3 or 4 good years they have.

One guy I like, but he's not very big is Ryan Callahan. Scour the league for Brooks Laich/Clowe types in the 25-27 age group, and then I'm all in with you in bringing them here. The Clowe window I think is closing.
