lol i figured as much.. which means that apple thinks niggling is a word?

just looked it up.. its a real word ....well well well:

niggling present participle of nig·gle (Verb)
Verb
Cause slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort, or anxiety: "a nasty leg wound which still niggled at him".
Find fault with (Leafs) in a petty way: "he loved to niggle and criticize the leafs".

Fixed..

You have to be 20 to start the season.

You can be called up once your CHL season ends without burning a year on the deal (Stuart Percy last year)

if a product of CHL, you have to be 20, or played 4 years. If from another league you have to be 18 (euro or US)

How many top 5 picks in the last few years went to play in the minors after junior, I don't think many, he will probably make the Leafs, won't bother me if he plays on the Marlies either.
- LeafMan

Well, at the five spot:

Brayden Schenn got half a season, but he also had 2 years of junior after being drafted.

Niedereiter is getting one right now.

Strome is in his second year of junior.

Going back further than Schenn...

Luke Schenn speaks for himself.

Alzner got 2 years of more AHL than NHL.

Looking at this list, I'd say it's more common they get a second year of junior/AHL than they do NHL. And looking at that list, I also think if it means anything, he's better off with it.

lol wow Nick Kypreos just refuses to give Toronto ANY credit. Saying the Reimer was the only reason the game was 1-0 against Boston, well that may be true (not really, Boston didn't even have that many GOOD chances) but isn't James Reimer on the team? I didn't hear Kypreos going on about how Toronto only loss a game because of BAD goaltending, which happened about 20 times last year. It's funny, Reimer plays good and Toronto keeps it close and it's all on him, but Toronto loses due to 3 bad goals and it's just the Leafs being the Leafs.

(frank) off Kypreos.

yup - too bad.

there was talk of changing that because it's not really fair for the players. Don't think CHL was on board though - their rule for retaining talent

Trying to look to next year and our depth chart seems to look like this

Forwards

Lupul open roster spot Kessel

JVR Grabovski open roster spot

Frattin Kadri Kulemin

Komarov McClement Brown
open roster spot

Kulemin is looking more like a 3rd line power forward, with the ability to step up to the 2nd line at times. Kadri could make a case for the 1st line centre role but with all the capspace we have to look to the open market.

Dmen

Rielly? Phaneuf

Gardiner Liles

The bottom pairing will be up for grabs. Kostka is a UFA, Gunnarsson,Franson and Fraser are RFAs but we may need a change of face is this year turns on us.

Reimer and Scrivens both on contract for a combined 2.4m cap hit. If they can give you goaltending that's good enough to stay competitive, for that price, what else can you ask for?

- t_leafs21

There won't be many great options.

Other than Getzlaf and Ribiero, there really isn't anyone great heading towards UFA status. Derek Roy? After than, it's Connolly, Lombardi and Antropov as your best bets.

Yuck.

I like White too. He was such a bulldog. For a small guy, he sure didn't play small.

That said, I don't think they really need Ian White. When Gardiner returns, that's another solid player. Holzer still looks like he can play a depth role. Blacker should be ready for a second or third pairing role in a year or two. If they got desperate, I wouldn't mind if Gysbers got some time on the Leafs. And plenty in the pipe.

Organizationally, they're still WAY too deep on D to start bringing in more of them, short of an elite guy. I'd be focusing on a centre.

- prock

Bring in White, have more options. Having too many options is a better problem than not having enough.

He could very easily replace Franson, IMO. And he brings the attitude you want for the younger guys.

Phaneuf-Gunnarsson(healthy)
Liles-Gardiner(healthy)
White-Komi/Holzer/Rielly

Gives you the option of 3 pretty damn mobile pairings that can play a fairly even amount of time.

We have to get it out of our heads that Carl Gunnarsson is a top pairing guy. Ron Wilson doesn't coach this team anymore.

Gunnarsson is a 3rd pairing guy that can give you safe minutes at best

It is either the Leafs or junior, but when he is legible for the AHL, if he doesn't make the Leafs it won't bother me if he is headed to the Marlies but I think he bypasses the AHL.
