If somebody could provide just one metric that actually proves this, I'd like to see it.
Is there a "meaningfulness" column on the stat sheet? - Leeman4Gilmour
Yes. When your team is up 4-1 in the 3rd, a meaningless goal would be goals 5 and 6. Jason Spezza is the king at getting meaningless points. |

when kessel is slumping he is no better than blake
and dont bother replying unless you actually have something tangible to say.. its wasting my time. - Dozzer
Isn't that what a slump is? Playing below your skill and talent level. You'd be hard pressed to find many players in the league who slump and play like top players at the same time...
Thats like saying, for example, when Iginla slumps hes playing like Sakic. |

did i not say when kessel slumps he plays like blake?
he is not attacking the zone right now.. far from it.. he stays outside and makes bad passes instead of taking it inside. (i will give you this.. blake chose the bad shot over the bad pass)
and honestly, who was blake's linemates? stajan? antropov? johnny malkiin?
how you could say those guys are any better than JVR and bozak is beyond me.
all i am trying to say is that when kessel is scoring he takes it to the inside.. right now he isnt doing that.. a la jason blake. - Dozzer
When anybody slumps, they look worse, if that's your point.
And, no, he's not playing like Jason Blake right now. He's playing like a guy who should have about 4 goals and 10 points if he were playing with a top 6 center.
Not even a top line center. Just a top 6 center. |

Try watching a game sometime, without the hate blinders on.
I know its frustrating, but dont let your emotions take over. - systemtool
Im not getting emotional about this at all.. And hate blinders? Really? I'm not a an of Kessels game this year and he's eating up too many minutes from guys who CAN score like Kadri and Frattin. |

yes it does actually, it was a horrible call. - big_dion
Nope not according to the rule...
Now u can argue the rule should be different, but last nights call was the right one under the existing rule.. |

My solution is bench him for a game or trade him. Hes not above a good old fashioned benching.. And if he gets butt hurt about it then he's not mentally strong enough to play in Toronto - Arctic_AARDVARK
Ya bench the player who is easily the best player on the team
Ya, I can see how we don't see eye to eye on things.

It was poop that it was a "distinct kicking motion" though - it seemed pretty clear his feet were just trying to pull up.
If it goes off just the one skate, OK, no goal. But as Big Dion stated, no way he can have it careem off his first skate, and then have the presence of mind to kick it in with his second skate.
It's Bozak, for eff's sakes. One only has to use the scientific method to observe the only plausible explanation for it being a goal was Bozak wasn't trying to do it. - Atomic Wedgie
That goal would have lifted the team right back into the game. Instead, it set them back and 2 penalties later (almost a full 5-3) the game was all but over. |

No pressure goals.. Game winning goals would be as close as a stat there is to it |

HOLY (frank)ING poop THATS MY FRIGGIN POINT!!!
he is slumping
why?
cause he's playing like blake
not once did i say he didnt have a higher skill set and is capable of being more.. not once.
and if you are going to give kessel the poopty linemate excuse you gotta give it to blake as well. so that part is moot
my synopsis:
is kessel better than blake? YES ABSOLUTELY
is he playing like blake right now? ALSO YES |

A slump where he's doing everything right, and suddenly his three consecutive 30+ goal seasons (including his most recent where he finished 6th in the league in scoring) mean absolutely nothing.
We are now comparing him unfavorably to the most useless, hated Leaf in recent memory.
Is anyone starting to see why a top free agent would never sign here? People would eat Getzlaf alive. |

I was at the game last night and Kessel is getting chances but he is floating around the perimeter WAY too much. I think he is getting pouty instead of pissed off that hes not scoring and its making him worse. |

Ovi got benched.. why not Kessel? And Kessel is hardly their best player now.. I'd be more inclined to take a hard look at Kadri over him.. say what you want but nazem is better defensively and has a better all around game and can get physical. |

oh (frank) i give up
if you guys cant see the similarities between kessel slumping and constantly shooting from the outside and blake's game i dont know how to convince you otherwise
things is.. kessel has the talent to be much much more.. blake at his A game is equal to Kessel when he is slumping
thats all i have been trying to say all this time. |

He is not playing like Blake at all. Hes had what...6 posts and like 20 legit scoring chances so far? Hes playing far better than Blake, but you dont notice it because all you're looking at is his 0 goals and comparing that to Blake. |

I get what you are saying.
I just take issue with the notion that Kessel isn't doing anything right now - I still think he looks dangerous when he collects the puck in the neutral zone and starts moving. And I think he's still doing that regularly. |

The problem with your point is that he is not just shooting from the outside. Hes shooting from every possible angle. |
