My does that matter? He has about $5.5 million left on his deal over 2 years.
I expect Olesz and Monty will be bought out, unless they are still injured and they cannot be. Frolik could go in a deal for Vermette, as much as I like Frolik I'd do this deal. There would have to be more that Frolik included, but the Yotes would save about $1.4 million comparing Frolik to Vermette. We could include Bickell and a prospect in the deal, some of the $1.4 million could be used to re-sign Bickell. I know this deal won't happen, I'm just having some fun with some highly unlikely possibilities. - DarthKane
Bigger question....If choosing between Bickell at less salary, or Frolik...Who would you take??
Frolik has been a great penalty killer... |

Sorry, forgot to include Darrell Powe in that trade tweet. Powe and Palmieri for Rupp. Palmieri going to CT. |

This may be a silly question, but is there a LTIR in the off season? Montador was placed on the injury reserve on January 19, 2013. If he was injured why wasn't he already in the LTIR? - DarthKane
He was reinjured in the off season, skating on his own...So I believe he wasn't eligible. |

I hate to shoot down all these trade proposals, but:
A) In case no one noticed, David Clarkson potted 30 goals last year for New Jersey. To think he can be had for a 2nd or 3rd round pick is, well, fantasy in my opinion.
B) Chicago has no 2nd or 3rd round pick this year (Oduya).
C) As far as players like Brouwer go, who signed a new contract over the summer that kicks in next year, I can't think of any guys that signed a multi-year contract extension over the summer, then have that team trade them prior to the trade deadline the very next year. I'm sure it happens, so someone please enlighten me if they can think of one. Because I can't. |

Unless rules changed w/the new CBA, during the offseason a team could be 10% over the cap. So at 64.3, a team can have a max cap of 70.7, but they would have to be cap compliant on Day 1 of the new season.
Were there any changes to this? - eburgio
very good point, forgot to add that... to clarify, During the off-season the hawks CAN exceed the $64.3 million cap by 10% but Monty WILL count towards the day 1 compliance #. Keep in mind there is also a risk going above the season cap # (i.e. 2010 hawks sell off trade returns, flyers dumping gagne for a late pick, etc).
Think of it this way... if you go to capgeek and start playing around with roster moves for the 2013-14 Hawks you can NOT 'X' out Monty's contract to fit the team under the cap. That additional cap room becomes available after the 1st game. |

Incorrect. LTIR is only there in case you need it. For example...
This year's cap is 70M. Hawks presently sit at 66M (or whatever). That does not include Montador LTIR because they don't need the space. Should they acquire Jarome Iginla ($7M) and that pushes them to 73M, only then could they utilize Montador's 2.75M LTIR exemption, to push them to the 70M.

Monty can't be bought out - contract has less than a $3MM cap hit. - Return of the Roar
Incorrect.
The $3mil figure was only for accelerated buyouts this year (Gomez and Redden). There is no min/max for the two buyouts that you can do this summer. |

C = Tomas Kaberle. Granted, he sucks. But he signed a 3 year deal w/CAR before last season and was dealt 3 months later
EDIT: it wasn't an extension. i'll keep noodling on that |

Not a silly question at all... that's where it gets way too complicated for me... The jist of what I understand is you do not want to use LTIR space during the seaosn if you don't have to. Something about 'banking' cap. I don't understand how this part of LTIR works.
edit ::: sorry - misread your post.
I'll try and look into that. |

Is Mcneil an option for mving to wing from center in our farm system. He seems to have the physical makup to play power forward and we have quite a few center prospects |

Not sure if this is still the case, but capgeek used to have a PDF version of the CBA on their site. Took forever and a day to load, but all that was there. |

New contract. Whatever. Just a guy who signs a new multi-year deal over the summer, then gets traded before the first year is up. Kaberle probably is one. Can't think of any others. |

Ah...I GOT IT...Devin Setoguchi. Signed a 3-year deal with the Sharks and about two weeks later gets shipped to Minnesota. |

Unless your team is up against the salary cap I would take Frolik every time. The defensive aspect of his game has improved greatly. Plus, on a team like Phoenix he could play top 6 minutes and would have a better chance to regain his 20 goal form. I like having Frolik on the team, he's really jelled well with Kruger to form an outstanding PK unit, but if he could help bring back a legit top 6 forward I would be ok with that. Shaw could move from the PP to the PK if needed. |

Can I get fries with that?
Bickell can pass and maintain a cycle. Frolik cannot.
6 of one half dozen of another. Both are 1 million dollar players, no more, in my perfect delusional world. |

Frolik's ability on PK make him far more valuable that Bickell. Specials were a huge reason why the season ended in Round 1 last year.
