Damn, the Flames are starting to remind me of the Oilers and how bad they are - scubasteve
No, no, no... the Oilers did it with a washed up goaltender, an attrocious blue line, and little to no veteran leadership. What's your excuse...?
This is an achievement that belongs exclusively to the Flames... enjoy! |

Change the last "are" to "were", and I'll agree.....The Oilers are at the end of a rebuild and are starting to see the results of what's going to be a great team. Still got a ways to go, but they are much improved.......The Flames on the other hand, well, welcome to NHL Basement HELL!!!! Enjoy your lottery picks. Jones or MacKinnon??? |

At the end of a rebuild. So finishing last for 3 years in a row was the plan?
Well done. |

Camellari and Iggy missed the morning skate yesterday. Rumor is that they were going to be part of a trade that didn't get the trigger pulled in time for the game. We have all heard Iggy trade rumors and he is a solid winger with some value. Who would it take to get Calgary to part with both Cam and Iggy?
First we have to look at the team invovled. The flames have never been one for full rebuild and rather they have been building a nucleus around Kipper and Iggy. They have some prospects and 2 dmen now. 2 established dmen and an aging goalie so their options are to trade these two for "prospects" like Philly did with Richards and Carter that have NHL experience but are not fully established, to trade them for equal type players or to trade them for 1 player.
I don't know of a team that can offer two similiar type players unless they want to buy someones problems. As for prospects, there are many teams such as Ottawa, Toronto that can offer prospects. Still this is less likely.
So who is out there for big names. Getz and Perry but Anahiem wouldn't trade them unless it was to dump salary. Which leaves the only player available that could be worth these two. Ovechkin. He is a strong scoring winger which replaces Iggy quite nicely. He has a large cap hit at 8 mil but Calgary has overpaid for years so why not. This would allow the team to "rebuild" around a player who could once again return to the top 3 in points each year.
As for Washington, they have messed up with Ovechkin. They tried to play him this year on the PK and then publicly criticized him for not producing. Ovechkin was already upset by the stunted points he faced in the last two years and was assured that the new coach would not do this to him. Ovechkin has publicly said he might as well play in the KHL but has not yet formally asked for a trade publicly although it is believed that he has to management.
Calgary would take on a huge contract but they would get a player that was use to playing 30 minutes a game. They could literally leave him out there for all offensive situations and in many ways are getting two players worth of ice time for that salary. As for Washington, they have ruined any motivation they could ever hope of getting from him and they have him signed for the next decade.
These two teams are not afraid of trading for players that are older than 20 like other teams seem to be. I think this is a perfect match for them both since Washington has to get rid of him before he asks publicly and Calgary needs a player of his caliber and has no other way of getting one. |

I don't think you follow Washington at all. Ovechkin has had troubles for 3 years now. He is listed on Cap Geeks, 10 most likely players to be bought out. The Caps management have on more than one occasion this year criticized his play to the media.
Washington right now is going no where fast. They have a ton of their salary wrapped up in Ovechkin. He is very much on the trading block and as soon as he publicly asks for a trade, he is as movable as Luongo. His value will drop sharply, much like it has for players like Heatley in the past that have done this. Iggy, Cammelari would be the two main pieces and this is not so much as a trade, this is a salary dump that saves Washington from buying him out.
But you don't have to trust me. If flames fans knew anything about hockey, they... wouldn't be flames fans. Do your own research. Ovechkin is on the trading block and the list of teams that can take his salary long term is small, of them the teams that want to do this is smaller and the teams that can offer 2 top 6 players is even smaller still. I am not saying that it is just these two but they would be part of the trade. That is possible. - bsteinley
Well, two teams stuck in neutral...would they really trade a marketable chip for a less marketable pair of chips(at this pt in their career)?
Hell, I'd be fine with Ovi on the Flames. Just don't see it happening.

Jones without question, but "stealing" a point here and there could f*ck things up, why is Chris Butler only play 13 minutes????? Wake up Hartley! |

You have a source? Right now OV's contract is even worse than Luongos & its 9.5 mill per. Cammi has 1 more after this at 6.0mill cap hit & Iggys 7.0mill but over this year & there may be value trading Iggy's rights in June. Personally, the way Feaster thinks, thats an interesting trade. We have 3 2nd lines right now but no 1st line. OV may get motivated playing with Hudler & Cerevenka. Huge huge risk for Flames because of the cap hit & length of that contract when the cap starts to decrease next year. Interesting, I dont know how I would feel about a Cammi & Iggy for OV deal. It would certainly boost Washingtons top 6. |
