Tim you are a frustratingly awful sports writer and personality.

This is the completely wrong direction for this team.

Tim I wouldn't even recommend any trade like that.... and that says a lot. sad part is he probably doesn't even read these to see how stupid he sounds

Tim Panaccio: Go Get Iginla
- tpanaccio

"He would cost them Scott Laughton but this team has no choice right now."

No choice, sure you do... Although, Bryz is playing great, the defense is not as bad as some estimates, and the offense is not scoring (yet) - The team is obviously missing a few components (to not having the player, or to injury). Iginla is not it... Trading Laughton for an over the hill Iginla is just dumb.

Just stick it out this season, and go with what we've got. Take a page from the Pen's handbook - really suck on occasion to get high round draft picks. The Flyer fans are really lucky, on how good this team is year over year. I don't mind an occasional bad season, especially a strike shortern season. This should allow the Flyers to look at deals at trade deadline, pick up a few prospects at draft, and shop the UFA next summer.

But, who knows they may be able to turn it around. This season will be good for the younger guys, who need more experience. Grabbing Iginla would just be trying to bail them out.

no choice? you have to be (frank)ing kidding me. ridiculous move that presents cap issues. no reason to trade a top prospect for a 35 year old pending UFA when the team is littered with issues.

horrendous suggestion.

holy crap! i couldn't have said this any better. word for word, I swear you read my mind

I've said this a million times but: don't presume Feaster will deal Iggy. First off, it's probably not entirely his call. One, or both, of these thing has to happen: the Flames have to absolutely bottom out - as in, not be on the bubble, but in actual lottery range - and/or Iggy has to ask out. Until then Iggy rumors are just speculation.

That said, I very dearly want it to happen, if for no other reason than Iggy needs to get on a contender before the end of his career.

unfortunately, the flyers are not a top echelon team...a plyoff team probably, but that's it.

Wow. Sorry for your luck, but thanks for JVR.
I don't miss Schenn at all.

Calgary has been known to make dumb trades. Phaneuf for Ian White and a bag of pucks was my favorites so far. I can't believe they lost White to Detroit. He was the best player on the Toronto side of that deal.

I wouldn't mind having Iginla but I would rather not trade youth for him. Clarke always did that for older rental players. I don't want to see them not make the playoffs but if the cost is not giving up on young guys so be it.

I dont get to watch the Flyers all of the time, mostly get to see them only when they play the Rangers but I did see Laughton play a couple of games for Philly while he was up and I think it would be a bad idea to trade him for Iginla. Also, I believe it would cost more than just Laughton to pry him from Calgary and with the injuries Iginla would not solve every problem. Even though its a short season it's still early, if I were a Flyers fan I would want them to wait a little longer before pushing the panic button and dealing my recent first round pick. Just my opinion anyway.

It blows my mind how much hate he got in TO. He's barely older than I am and he's been in the league for 4 years, as a stay a home dman for crying out loud. He was dubbed the next Adam Foote in one of the biggest hockey markets in the world. God forbid he didn't step out of the womb as Adam Foote.

I think he's been good, great as using his body, active stick, and his maneuverability and skating issues were drastically overstated. Has he gotten beat? Yeah, but he's been more than advertised.

Totally agree. Schenn has been mostly solid. At worst he's a top 4 guy in the longterm. I think as he gets older and more experienced he may very well be the stay at home guy on a top pairing. JVR is streaky, soft, and injury prone. Let's see what the Leafs fans think when he starts taking games off, or goes into a huge slump or misses extended time on IR.

Regarding getting Iginla, like everyone else I couldn't possibly agree more that would be a terrible move. This team at least right now is not going to win a cup. I'm not trading our top prospect for a guy who is a UFA.

I think he has a higher ceiling, granted that's dealing with potential. (JvR )

If Pronger can give some mojo to L.Schenner... Look out. Not making any comparisons to Pronger, but at max a good two way defensive specialist 1st pairing guy.

Then again, JvR is a big kid with great hands and an explosive stride when he gets on the horse. That Boston series where the Flyers got worked was pretty unreal, he was the best player on the ice for both teams. And that's the only time I remember him skating his ass off for more than 2 games in a row.

White being traded became inevitable once Giordano signed his extension. They didn't lose him directly to Detroit - they traded him to Carolina for Anton Babchuk (who is for all intents and purposes done with Calgary and never was very effective to begin with), then White signed with Detroit later. Much like the Phaneuf trade itself, the idea of the trade was fine but the execution was terrible.

But yeah, I always liked White. Funnily enough the Ian White trade was the last move Sutter ever made; he was fired a month later.

I agree. You add someone like Iginla to get over the hump to the Cup. Adding Iginla would be great if the team was playing well but Scott Laughton for a playoff appearance (if we're lucky) and likely early exit is not worth it.
- egreenxc

This is bang on.

In the article you say the team is full of holes and needs help everywhere. Then in the same breath you say add a 'short term solution' by getting Iginla???

What sense does that make. You add a short term solution to try and win the Cup. You don't do it to fill one of many holes.

It was a good trade for both teams & players. Both guys are young players with potential. Both are going to have slumps and make mistakes. However teams and coaches are much more forgiving about those when they don't really have anyone better to take your place.

I wish JVR well, but we are full up on power forwards and I like Luke Schenn playing with Kimmo. I would make that trade again in a heartbeat.

1 down. I'll take Bobby Orr instead of Crossman. Otherwise, we're on the same page.
