I'm not wild about spending trade resources on Jagr, either. Unless it's an eighth round pick and Jody Shelley going the other way, what exactly are we getting in Jagr? A late season feel good boost for Giroux? Just get the kid some anti-depressants.

Trading for him makes zero sense. Bringing him back as a free agent for a similar deal he got last year can be argued fairly both sides. Trading any assets for him in what could very well be a lost season is flat out dumb.

Thats why i said a trade and sign type deal for them.
I would not trade anything for them right if an extension was not included.
That being said, they are not winning this year so just deal with the suck and go hard next season.

You'd have to get Anaheim to allow you to talk to the player or agent before making the deal. Doesn't really happen in the NHL. I see it as a huge mistake to trade Couturier for a pending UFA.

I wouldn't trade away any future assets at this point. I wait to see where we are in a month. This isn't a win now team. No reason to overpay for anyone.

If we're still playing this poorly I trade Kimo for picks to bolster our shots of being able to move up in the draft and or draft more players. I severely doubt players of Perry and Getz's caliber are going to be open to signing with someone right after a trade. And especially so since this is the 1st time ever UFAs have a week to talk to whomever they choose.

Of course it will be just for another year, he's 40. That just delays finding out what you need to know. I would agree that Giroux and Hartnell grew, and Jagr was a positive influence. But it's time to cut the cord. More players don't work out then do. That's the way it's always been. Regardless of what approach you use. Flyers made the right choice to not bring Jagr back. Time for other players to step up. I guess we just disagree.

That may be a neat reclamation project. I say, once our record reaches 2 and 12 next week.. offer Timo and possbily a pick for him.. I will l get a Fail for Seth/MacKinnon t shirt made up.

Not sure I want to trade the only young defenseman in the system that we think can play as a regular in NHL, that can be called up for a Forward.

Now that's a good option too.. I have faith that Homer will address the D this summer. Big thing for me is though, if we are trulynot making the playoffs..I don't wanna be the Leafs and barely miss it. poop the bed royally and get a top pick. Hopefully, if we come in last overall, then we can get at least a top 5... cause you know the lottery won't go our way hahaha

I don't get why everyone is so protective over Couturier.... I see someone in this blog alone called him our "best all around player".... really? Ya he is decent in all aspects but if you actually truly watching him he actually has been sub-par and at times lousy. Especially his decisions making of passes in the offensive zone lately have been out right terrible, almost as if he is always blindly passing. Anyway MJL I see you are very protective over him but if Phoenix would do a straight up Coots for Yandle I would do it in a heart beat, even if it required a draft pick or minor league player. Yandle is still relatively young and pretty well proven to be a solid higher caliber player, you guys dwell on Coots "potential", and you never truly know what kind of plateau he will hit and be stuck at. Plus what defensive prospects we have compared to offensive? Have to bite the bullet sometime. Do it when his Trade Value is still high.

From the second half of the first period until they gave up the breakaway goal, the Flyers had things going well. They were skating better and winning most of the face offs.
I think Read had several really good scoring chances.

The bad change and Couts failure to get the puck deep leading to the goal was very deflating.

Then Luke Schenn struggled on the next two goals. On the Brower goal he was cheating towards Kimmo's side and when that pass got through he had no chance to get back.

After it was 3-1 the Flyers played desperate for a bit and fought for their 2nd goal. That was slightly encouraging as it showed they did have another higher gear. But it was typical of past teams where they wait until it was too late to turn it on.

The line changes looked horrendous, and I'm not sure Brayden Schenn can play any worse then he did last night despite the goal. He is really tight. Luke had a tough night too. Whatever.

They gave away that game, I honestly thought they were going to win last night.

The 2nd year guys are going to struggle all year. Couts for the most part last year had a well defined role of 4th line and PK. It was a perfect way to transition into the league. This year they are asking for a lot more from him. It is going to be painful. Same with B Schenn. But this will be an invaluable year for them. If there is a young top pair D man available then consider a major trade, but no team is going to trade those young entry level deal guys who are top pair guys. Yandle is expensive and older. OEL makes him tradable for Phoenix, but I wouldn't do it. If they can get Brian Campbell for value, maybe. As much as I hate him, he would make a big difference in transition and PP. Not sure how many years left he has, and if they can fit his contract.

If they have to struggle this season, so be it. Don't trade first round picks for older vets. No way.

And I'd rather them keep the young guys unless they get a young top pair Defenseman back in trade. Which seems unlikely.

I like his game, but for Weber, I'd have driven him to the airport.

Part that irks me is that there was no call in the game.. a 5 and a game would have helped in a must win game.. this way, he will most likely miss games to the benefit of other teams.

I would do that, and I think it's pretty fair value to send a young D with some NHL experience plus an upper round pick considering how far MPS' stock has tumbled. From afar, though, I'd say Edmonton needs more of a shutdown type than another puck mover/ offensive minded type in their system (basically the opposite of Flyers' needs). Oliver Lauridsen is way too marginal of a NHL prospect to be an attractive trade proposition.

But I would make that deal if Edmonton would go for it.

The Flyers really need a puck-moving D of their own, and Gus is currently the best one in the system. To be honest, though, I think he's kind of a fringe NHLer. Not quite good enough offensively at NHL level and not quite strong enough defensively (undersized, gets pushed around, not awful but not great positionally).

Straight up Couturier would be a robbing haha, I would of done something realistic like Coots, Timonen, and a 1st at the time. But replacing Schenn with the 1st would make it a very hard decision to make...

Couturier is 20 years old. Why anyone doesn't expect there to be some growing pains is beyond me. Couturier has the chance to be a 2 way Center with Selke potential. The problem is that some think that Yandle is more then he is. Couturier for Yandle is an awful deal in my opinion. And throw in a draft pick and a prospect? Even worse. You don't make a bad deal because you don't have any defensive prospects. Makes zero sense.

I'd do it. Flyers could also use a natural winger with some offensive upside.
Gustafsson is the most NHL-ready D man the Flyers have and is a puck-mover to boot, but is also pretty much a third-pairing D (and I don't see much upside beyond that) at the NHL level.

How soon before he gets called up?
Foster and/or Lilja playing every night is pretty scary.

I agree on what Gustafsson is, but we could use him right now. And not sure I want to trade defensive depth for another winger at this point.
