What I am hoping for is that we get in a better spot standings wise so that Homer is not in a position of weakness when he makes a trade to fix the D. I completely expect Homer to make a move dealing either Schenn or prospects/picks for a dman who is established but not at the end of his career. I just don't see Homer standing pat.

It's amazing how badly they get out of position whenever there's a breakdown.

Even last night, there were so many stupid breakdowns and turnovers, it's hard to even blame systemic flaws or say that they're "turrible".

Take the second goal for the Canes. Schenn had such a bad turnover, on a basic play that it's beyond systemic and beyond bad personnel on defense.

Until that stuff gets eliminated, there's going to be a sense that it's a position of weakness. Sorry to take the long way to actually address your comment

If we could play carolina 39 more times we'd be in good shape

After 32 blocked shots, I'd be worried how many guys would be joining Hartnell at the podiatrist.

They shouldn't have to be blocking that many. A lot of poor coverage unfortunately

It was just a bad decision on Schenn's part. Trying to make a breakout pass through skates in your own zone, instead of making the safe play up the wall or a chip out off the glass. He struggled through the first two periods. But he came out and played a very good 3rd period with a number of good shifts. That's what you look for in a young player. How he bounces back.

I'm not picking on him, I think that, overall, he's played well. Just pointing out that little errors like that aren't systemic or a sign that the personnel sucks and needs to be replaced.

I'm really liking Luke schenn. A lot of the negative stuff was overhyped. His decision making has gotten better and will continue to do so.

Interesting on a back to back, Sestito and Rinaldo got the fewest minutes on ice for the forwards, no suprise. However, B. Schenn was next in line with only 10 minutes and Voracek with 11 minutes.

I know both don't play PK, but does seem a little low for both. Is Lava sending a message?

You know a trade is coming though. Everytime I look at Couturier I can't help but think: man it's been fun watching you in a flyer sweater.

last 2 gms, not so much. they are correctable, but he needs to eliminate the panic from his gm. he can take the body all nite, but his decision making will make-or-break his career.

I would think so. Icetime is one of the hammers a Coach has.

Well, there is no doubt the team needs to execute better as you say. I have no idea why we are making so many mistakes but it does need to get fixed and fast. If they do, we'll win more games and as long as we're in the hunt, Homer doesn't have to make a deal from a weak spot.

Still have to expect him to have some bad games. He's still young. What you look for is how he responds after a bad game or a bad period. He struggled in the first 2 periods, but came back strong in the 3rd and made a number of strong plays to help maintain the lead.

McGinn has been a pleasant suprise. Will he continue to do enough to warrant top 9 minutes even when Simmonds returns? If he does, I'm not sure B. Schenn or Voracek's ice time will increase.

I'm pretty confident some type of trade will go down before the deadline. If McGinn continues to play his game which is protecting the puck along the walls and providing screens in front, it certainly could make one of the higher salary forwards trade bait.

the good news is that he can watch these types of errors on video and learn from them. the bad news is that they've been saying that about him for 5 yrs. thats 2 unforced errors that led directly to goals in 2 gms. its a clear pattern throughout his career that he must break.

He's 22 years old. He has had as much good play as bad. I'll take him on his play here, and not the past. I think a lot of what has been said of him in the past, by fans particularly, has been inaccurate. He's played 9 games in a Flyers uniform, and has had 5 sub par periods. I'll take that as a sign of promising things to come. I love the trade so far.
