I never cited wikipedia... and weren't you comparing Schneider's value now to what Lu's value was when he was traded?
- nucks_94

Apologies - it was rune with the wikifacts. Schneider specifically wasn't part of it. It was to support the argument that goalies, in general, don't get very high returns in trades.

Gillis is not stupid enough to have 9.3 Mil one spot tied up.

- VANTEL

The problem with this is that he does have 9.3 mil tied up in one spot. So, does that make him stupid, or you delusional?

Im just curious.

Beware of Oilers superfan SaskOil.

Guy goes nuts if you make any disparaging comments about the province of Saskatchewan.

You know, not that I would ever knowingly do that just to see him blow a gasket...

So Gillis should probably just bend over and take it from whatever any GM in the league is willing to give to him? Would that make him stupid?

I just pointed out the facts. Like the fact he does have 9.3 tied up in one position, contrary to what wantel said. What he does is up to him, but the cap is going down soon so he better decide in the next few months.

No he does have it right... No one wants Lu for his price tag... Try for the cup again...when that fails buy him out and then Lu can get his wish of going to FLA...

It's not about bending over, though.

It's about being realistic.

Luongo is great. He'll probably be a super-duper goalie for the next 5 years. But his contract goees for 10 - you can't look at his output today and only use that to assess his value.

Scheider: a whole lot of potential. But it's still just that.

And then you have to factor in that goalies simply do not fetch a lot on the trade market (one exception noted above).

Hey, good problem to have: I'd rather have too much talent than not enough.

But it seems Gillis is wanting to hit a home run here. I think something between a bunt and a double is more realistic.

No way in heck he gets bought out.

Why would they do that when they can put him on the waiver wire?

The dude has value.

Just not as much as Gillis thinks at the moment.

True... Either way though someone is getting Lu for half price or less... and does not have to trade anything to get him! NYI is the likely destination... where he began... if you consider waiver wire

We'll see. Gillis is pretty stubborn. Eventually, he's gotta do something though, I agree.

This is false. If Gillis can literally get NOTHING for Lu, then he trades Schneider.

Well, I guess at the end of the day, there really isn't a time where Gillis is under more/less pressure to deal either goalie leading up to next season. Why not ride out this season and deal with the pressure over the summer? Only hope there, is that both have had good enough seasons by the end to maintain any trade value they originally had, and you can shop for the deal that best suits your team in the future.

And asks for what? We end up in the same situation as last summer when other GMs expect that Gillis will have to move at least one of them...

I would absolutely love to see the business plan they present to potential investors.

"So, we think that in the next six months, we can raise ticket prices by 2800%, and that will spur on Coyotes fans to increase their ticket buying by 330%. "

"And will the Coyotes then be profitable?"

"No, but if we also manage to find oil beneath centre ice..."

Agreed. The pressure will come this summer, not this season. I just wish the media would stop talking about it every time one or the other goalie has a good game. They'll be in a rotation until one gets traded, period.
