If he was still a prospect(i.e. on his ELC) fine. But he's not. He can't go to the Phantoms without clearing waivers. Sure, he has upside, but he's been unproductive in the NHL thus far and it's been 5 years since he was drafted.

Look at that 2008 NHL draft 1st round. There's many skaters who havent reached full potential. That was a late blooming draft.
I have every faith in the world he will do well for the Pens.

So who are they trading. Malkin or Crosby?
- mayorofangrytown

Malkin to Toronto for Komisarek, Kadri and Scrivens

He'll be starved for playing time with Crosby, Malkin and Sutter ahead of him on the depth chart.

They aren't going to allow that team to move to Quebec or Markham. The expansion fees in those cities would be ridiculous. If they add two teams there they'll be in the east. They aren't going to want to move another team east so I'd think KC or Seattle.
- mayorofangrytown

Seattle seems a great fit with the Sacramento Kings set to move there. They'll have a brand new building looking for tenants. Also, I think Bettman would prefer to relocate in the US over Canada.

He'll have to move to wing, and he's struggled with teams that get physical.

My bigger issue is, where would he play in Philly? Too small and soft to be a 4th liner, and I'd rather see Brayden Schenn, Tye McGinn and the kids the Flyers already have get the opportunities here than a retread.

Also, keeps a reserve list spot open for adding a more needed piece to the puzzle.

i think quebec and southern ontario are likely to get the expansion teams. phx could go to seattle. florida needs to go somehwere else: KC, Vegas - (frank), almost anywhere.

Kansas City also has a new building without a major sports tenant although they're turning a great profit without one.

An NHL team in Vegas is just silly. Seattle is a pretty solid city with plenty of businesses and jobs. I think an NHL team there could really grow a solid fan base quickly ala San Jose.

Also Seattle is under 3 hours away from Vancouver. Plenty of nucks would trickle over the border to watch games like they do in Buffalo. Could set up some nice rivalry in the west as well.

they'd certainly break the mold by putting a pro franchise there. don't think it will ever happen.

seattle is a great opportunity with a brand new building. natural rivalries with san jose and vancouver are automatic.

That sounds good. Relocate/expand to Seattle, Kansas City, Quebec City and other. Not digging Vegas though.

If the NFL, MLB or even NBA hasn't expanded to Vegas, I doubt the NHL will. I think they'd be more cautious especially in a kind of weird market like Vegas.

The city of Markham just passed their arena bill. There's been speculation that expansion fees for those two cities could reach $500,000,000. The NHL only got $60 mil in relocation fees from Winnipeg. Moving a team to one of those two cities will never happen.

which is insane money considering jamison can't even scratch like 160 together to simply buy the team.wonder if jimmy ballsack will get back in the game with the markham situation, and if they get a team, WTF do they call them, the Markham somethingorothers?

I still love that Ottawa got him and Chara for Yashin.

Hindsight = 20/20, but one of the best trades (for Ottowa in this case) that I've ever seen.

There are already three groups ready to dive into the Markham pool. Quebec has their prospective owner in place.

Markham is so close to Toronto that it would be unimaginable that they wouldn't be Toronto Something. Ontario Something may be an outside shot.

You know who used to play in Markham? STAMKOS. 105 goals, 92 assists in 66 games for the Markham Waxers of the OMHA in 2005-06.
