That's an interesting perspective from a Blue Jackets fan. You should know first hand how having a crappy team can affect a fan base. The Blue Jackets had one of the most solid, loyal fan bases in the league until one embarrassing trip to the playoffs and years of being a doormat started taking a toll on the attendance.
The Coyotes only started becoming good during the ownership mess. They've generally had crappy teams up until then, so why should the fans become emotionally invested in this team until the ownership issues are solved AND they have a decent product on the ice?
Stable ownership + winning = any team can be viable in any market. Even Phoenix.

I absolutely agree with you. The Bolts are a prime example of mismanagement for a long time. Now with a great owner in Vinik we are selling out every night. My issue with the Yotes is if Jamison is having trouble just to get the financing to buy the team, what's he gonna do in the years to follow when he is losing lots of money building that tradition and fan base?

jesus f'ng cripes. i just found some old flyers playoff tickets from 2004 at $250 a piece for the 4th round (which they didn't get to obviously. hell, they might not even make the playoffs period this year, but that's besides the point).

yup I remember when the canucks where playing the coyotes in the playoffs, people from vancouver were flying to phonex and buying tickets for cheaper than just buying tickets for the home games
"Resilient franchise". Nice way of saying, "hey canadians, we're going to keep tanking your revenue sharing money into a garbage market, but don't ever expect us to hold one of your teams up while we wait for a new owner".
Gretzky is the one who sank the coyotes by destroying all of it's young talent and ran the team into the ground.why should he get anything since the team was bought out of bankruptcy.he wasn't a debt holder so his claim should have been resolved in the bankruptcy court.Jamison should tell Gretzky to get lost. - kaptaan
...if it weren't for Wayne they would have had 3 fans instead of 12....

Same thing here with edmontons fans flying to carolina. That is a sad truth.

Ya, but even Tampa has many season ticket holders that are canadian, retired folks and whatnot. Dumb place for a team. As soon as they have a few sub par years they will be done. Just read the forbes list on bleacherreport.com bolts lose at least 12 million a year even with a conference final team.
The math doesn't add up for the NHL. 15 plus teams lose money every year or if their lucky break even - and that's WITH revenue sharing. by the way the only sure money makers in the States are NYR, Pitt (now that they have Crosby), and Phil. That is it! But the problem is only 16 teams make the playoffs, and only 2 go all the way. This league cannot ever escape this fact. Unless each of these money losers goes the distance they cannot make money. But let's say they just need to be "successful" for a period of time. That would mean other teams become unsuccessful - it would have to mean that - meaning they would suffer. There simply isn't enough playoff revenue to be spread around to keep all these teams "successful" enough to remain stable financially. The reason Bettman hangs around is because he's sly enough to convince rich guys to invest in a constant mathematically loosing opportunity, however in Phoenix it will never work because they have gone too long now as BIG losers. The bottom line is eventually there will be contraction because even the massive egos of the owners can only lose money so long .

Umm, Bolts weren't in the playoffs last year. As for your $29 quote, were you in Miami or in Tampa? And as for your , look at the Bolts attendance this year before you start throwing around . Enjoy your snow

Wow, you people in the great white north. I find it amusing you say as soon as we have a few sub par years. Hey dumbfrank, what were all of those losing years I was referring to when the Bolts were being mismanaged and were quite frankly the laughingstock of the NHL? Enjoy your snow

And just in case you wanted numbers. Last season in a NON PLAYOFF YEAR the Bolts played to 96.7% capacity over the entire season. This season we are at 100% capacity (and actually above b/c they have sold standing room tix). So save your "bad place for a team" crap for when you know what you are talking about.
