C'mon Garth and some of you Sabres fans on here. If the hit was deemed dirty or illegal (other than to warrant the 2 minute penalty) Brown would have been suspended. There is no conspiracy here, stop making it sound like one.

Good for Weber for sticking up for his teammates. Good game for both teams last night too. OT games are exciting, no matter who wins.

Eeek. I'm watching the Montreal/Ottawa game and Neil just about took a guys head off with the boards and the door to the bench. That's a dangerous hit.

It's amazing the lack of respect some of these guys have for one another.

- HonkFortheGoose

You know what? 20 years ago, this dirty pest type player role didn't really exist. Ciccarelli and Claude Lemieux, that's about it. And both of those guys were very talented hockey players. Guys like Ruutu, Avery, Cooke, and yes, to an extent, Kaleta, who are full out common these days, that don't serve much more of a purpose other than instigating, that type of player didn't really exist 20 years ago.

The respect these guys have for each other is all but gone, in the NHL.

I don't remember enough of it from 20 years ago to really say, but Kaleta and Cooke have both tried to change their game so that they aren't detrimental to the team. Both have good defensive skills. Cooke actually had a breakaway in a game I watched a few days ago. He didn't score, but he had an opportunity to. Kaleta is probably the Sabres best defensive forward. I hate when he's not in the lineup. The PK is so much different without him.

I noticed. But I usually only point out someone's spelling or grammar mistakes if they're being a jerk to me, and you were not. So I let it go.

I'm just saying, it's a new thing. 20 years ago, you were either an enforcer, or a player. Not in between, someone that would agitate until the other team would fight. And if you tried the kind of thing that guys like Matt Cooke do, you would get your face pounded in. It just seems way too tolerated these days. Maybe it's the instigator rule, I don't know. But it's true.

I think the instigator rule has caused more problems than it's helped. It needs to go.

yeah, and even he was a pretty damn good scorer. He wasn't out there for no other purpose than to agitate. Look at those point totals. Matt Cooke averages what, 30 points a season?

could be the inst. rule . They voted recently to keep it . Would help players be more accountable for stupid action on the ice .

Or maybe they should just start suspending the hell out of these guys. Or start punishing the teams too, when they do something stupid.
