I'm not here to defend Kaleta on anything, but here's a list of some of the tougher guys he's fought:

Steve Downie
Cody Bass
Milan Lucic
Derek Dorsett
Paul Mara (2x)
Steve Ott
Chris Thorburn
Daniel Carcillo
Aaron Asham

Who else is he supposed to fight?

- Freyster98

Thats the thing...he busts his ASS on the penalty kill...and primarily serves to get under the other team's skin (see last years game when we won 6-0 against boston)...a fight here and there is fine...but he is very good at what he does...i don't know why people constantly nit-pick him

But all bigger than Kaleta is though. I'm just trying to point out that he WILL go with guys that fight on a regular basis. There seems to be a misconception that he won't fight anyone, which is not true.
- Freyster98

He has downright turtled or hid behind the refs a few times. You do that three or four times, and that's the reputation you end up with.

If Moore had simply turned around and faced Bertuzzi....manned up...he'd be playing hockey somewhere today instead of walking crooked.
- JLO961

Wow. Did you really just say that? That's a pretty terrible thing to say.

See, this is where you've got me all wrong, fella. Seeing as how I'm not a fella at all.

Move along now.....

- HonkFortheGoose

HAHAHAHAH!!!! awesome. best thing ive read in this entire thread.

on kaleta- all this fervor over him by fans of other teams tell me one thing- hes really good at his job- which is a pest/agitator- not a fighter.

hes supposed to walk away. thats the point. when at his best he has drawn penalties that have changed games. also- his being a local boy means he will be defended to the death around here.

as for the personal attacks on him:
http://www.hitsfoundation.org/

on ruffs comments- whether he feels that way or not about the hit- he threw kaleta under the bus in my opinion. how do you sell the "all for one -team above all" pitch when you dont back you guy. if he hasnt already lost this team (i think that happened long ago) he may have now...

OK, right. But is that reputation necessarily 100% true? NO, it's not.

For some reason most people only see things in black or white, like you're either a wussy or a goon. There is gray area in between, where you can be an actual hockey player and also fight once in a while. Kaleta lives in the gray.

you know what? right or wrong, there is truth to that. I'm not saying it's his fault, nor does it excuse bertuzzi in the least, but he would have gotten his ass kicked, and that's all.

It's one thing to realize that. It's entirely another to actually speak it.

It was a good hit on him ffs..Stop whining like a lil school girl ..Even Ruff said Kaleta turned at the last second and he was partly at fault for the hit..Browns just thinking pay backs a female dog aint it Kaleta..Afterall wasnt it Kaleta that steam rolled Kessel infront of Miller in the last game, and when brown went after him to fight Kaleta hiked hsi skirt up and refused

I'm not arguing that he won't fight. I'm just saying, you can fight 50 times, but run and hide 2 or 3 times, people are going to remember the 2 or 3.

Do we really need to keep beating this to death? Seriously. It's old now. Just let it go. Sheesh.

Meh, doesn't bother me speaking about it. Where the other guy goes wrong is, he makes it sound like that makes it Moore's fault, which is just plain f*&ked up.

That's the problem with reputations. They're not usually very accurate.

He was forced to change his game or quit hockey .. Refs had eyes on him and called everything . once he got back to playing hockey . He has been an asset. He really can play. great PKer and does have some hockey sense. but his tag lives on by the the other teams fans that don't see him play all the time .

no facts here to go on- just a foggy memory- but i dont think he has ran and hide in a while. he used to for sure- because he felt that was the job- agitate, draw the 2, job well done.

and while that is the job to an extent- ruff has mentored him while here and helped him realize that there are times when you have to drop him, and times when you dont...

The problem with the whole thing is that Bertuzzi had no self control at all. Moore shouldn't have had to even try to fight. It's his decision to "man up" or to skate away. He chose option 2 and Bertuzzi didn't have enough respect for a fellow player to let it go.

Someone on here once said that the Sabres should try and acquire Bertuzzi. I swore I would change my allegiance if that happened.

I'm not making any judgements. There was a time when Lucic was backing off a lot of fights. It was rumoured the Bruins coaches told him not to, as they needed him on the ice. Backing down from a fight can be the right thing to do.
