+4 last year with bryz..

But he'd probably be doing pretty well here this year. Was sad to see him go. Not the best dman ever but there are far worse options.

Flyers miss him big time.

Regarding his +/-, I don't think his best asset they miss right now is his defense anyway, but his offense ability. All things considered, they haven't been doing bad on D.. it's moreso a problem of no offensive support. Which I think is where Carle is most missed right now.

Yea I agree.. bryz has covered well for the d so far though.

What I think the flyers lack is a dman who punishes people in front of the net. Too often we dont even tie up anyone and they freely get to rebounds. Its maddening!

It's hard to have that punishing defenseman under the rules today. Far too often that kind of player will get called for interference than actually clear the porch.

But, you're absolutely correct in saying that there's been far too many cases of the opposing team getting opportunities where it's a forward with the puck alone with Bryzgalov.

Yeah, I can agree with that too. Grossman and Schenn are beast along the boards, but when it comes to clearing the crease, they tend to let guys dance right in. And Timonen and Coburn just seem to be lacking overall physical play. Obviously the reffing has been tight this season so far, so maybe they're overly scared of getting called for it... I don't know. But they need to get in there and take those second chance and garbage goals away, even if you aren't clearing the guy per se.

Don't get me wrong, they've had good moments of getting guys out. But far too often they let guys get right in Bryz's grill...

con·text (kntkst)
n.
1. The part of a text or statement that surrounds a particular word or passage and determines its meaning.
2. The circumstances in which an event occurs; a setting.

Example: Stevens, Hextall, Fraser, Carter, Richards, Williams, and Gagne were all bit players in the Kings Stanley Cup run. Good sarcasm is usually rooted in context.

I think, especially on the PK, that it's been blown coverage and positioning issues, more then physical issues. Clearing the crease doesn't rally happen anymore. You really can't physically move a player as you could in the past. You'll get called for interference. What you can do is get inside positioning on a player, and try to tie up his stick, or hit him when the puck is there. Defense is not an easy position to play these days.

I wonder too if the dmen are trying to do it all bc of the forwards weak defensive play
