My point is, everyone dwells on Ruff and Regier being here for 15 years. Remember, both of these guys had to deal with the mandate of 3 different owners. All with a different vision of the team. Rigas said he would get all the tools necessary but the only tool he got us was Corkum. Golisano ran this team like the Oakland A's. Do the best you can but make sure the money stays in the black. Pegula brings a whole different vision. He loves this team, loves the city but he has to look at how these guys do under his new mandates. Ruff and Regier are basically in full year 2 of Pegula's ownership and he has to evaluate these guys based on the performance of the team. Canning the coach 6 games into a season that includes no preseason games and a good sized turnover of the roster does not offer the type of sample size needed to can Ruff. (yet). I'm not saying that Ruff should be here the whole year even if we continue to lose. I'm saying that there are good teams out there that have not started very well. Pittsburgh is 3-3 with losses to some terrible teams (Islanders). It's a short season, yes, but even if we had a different coach, is this the roster of a Stanley Cup contender? - Dwight K. Schrute
The ownership talk could be a factor in grading Regier, but not Ruff, IMO.
As I wrote, Ruff has basically had the same roster year after year and what sort of coaching changes has he ever made? He has the same skill guys as he's had for a long time now and it's not brought us anything, so why continue with this same march to mediocrity year after year?
What's a new coach hurt? Are we not going to win the cup?? Wow, sounds like the entire history of the team, however would we survive without Ruff?!? |

Ask Habs fans and they'll tell you exactly how bad hiring the wrong coach is . Serious question though who would you guys put as Ruff's replacement? I really can't think of anyone. Would you take Ron Wilson over Ruff? If they miss the playoffs they should give Phil Housley a call (he's the one who won gold for the Americans right?) |

You kind of make my point here. Ruff had the same roster of guys who were not enough to get the team over the top. That right there goes on Regier for not getting him better players. That in turn goes to the ownership (and that dbag Quinn) in not allowing Regier to spend the money to get some high priced guys or even to sigh some of them. You look at any Stanley Cup winner, they have all added players to get them from playoff team to Stanley Cup winner. Was Regier afforded that from Golisano? We all know that answer. And when you can not have the tools to improve your roster it will affect the on ice product. I'm not against a new coach but I am against running our team like it is some sort of Xbox game or the Washington Redskins under Snyder. |

Most people will say we missed the boat on Dineen. He may very well be a good coach but he was using the same system Lindy employs. |

You look at it as me making your point, I look at it as a major failure of a coach to change how he gets his players to play. |

Anyone who comes in will have either the same number or more Championships, so to me it doesn't matter... |

Any Pee-Wee/Bantam House coach from any local hockey league...

I remember when Paul Kariya returned to the game from a severe concussion issue and Patrick Kaleta honored the occasion by directly targeting Kariya's head and ending his career permanently.
So, when I heard Kaleta went to the hospital last night I immediately thought of Kariya, and hoped he was smiling brightly. |

The Sabres do not have stanely cup talent on their roster.
Boston
Rangers
Pittsburgh
Vancouver
St Louis
Chicago
LA
San Jose
Those are the teams that are stanely cup caliber. The Sabres are a borderline playoff team. No real superstar on the lineup. When Vanek is your best player thats not a good thing. |

Directly targeting Kariya's head? Kaleta didn't even make contact with the head, go away troll

He makes contact with the head. Its not a bone jarring hit but none the less he could have taken the body. I see you hate Kaleta almost as much as I hate Avery |

well, the entire internet is actually almost out of space recapping all the incidents Kaleta when targeted someone's head.
Avery pretty much just banged players girlfriends and said bad words on the ice. |

No doubt Kaleta is a dirty player, hes gotten better in the past year cleaning his game up a bit but hes still borderline dirty at best. Not like it matters that much, with all of his neck injuries mounting hes not going to be playing too much longer. |

What part of this team is stanley cup caliber? You're the same guy who rambled on about what a disappointment Tyler Myers is yet you believe despite that the D is good enough for a championship run? When was the last time Miller was mentioned in the same category as Rinne or Lundqvist. And seriously how many teams win a championship with a sophomore as there number 1 centre? Over the last couple of years I've started to side with the idea of needing a new coach but I don't think we can just bring in a new guy and say that this is a cup winning team. If they add one more key player and then we'll see. |

Looks like Kariya put his head in the way of Kaleta's elbow there. I don't understand the problem with Kaleta... Hockey's history (sports history) is built on players like him taking out the other teams top guy... But hey, let's just pretend like this is our first rodeo... |

We are missing a real crease clearing defenseman and secondary scoring. You will not win anything if only one line is scoring. |

Yep. I just dont think we are good enough period. Our defence is garbage and our forwards are so hot and cold it is laughable. We have not had a stacked team since 05-06. We need better players |

In the off-season I was really hoping for Ryan Suter or Matt Carle. I think Tyler Myers can become that kind of D-man we need for a cup run but I think he needs someone to look up to and learn from. Unfortunately there is not much he can learn and gain confidence from Regehr or Leopold
Edit: Drew Doughty would be my comparable as far us where Myers is right now. Correct me if I'm wrong but Doughty has no points so far? |
