he is a rental and won't be re-signing there, I think he is getting traded pretty soon somewhere, but yeah, we don't have the assets
- jimbro83

Yeh, there will be a huge demand for centerman who can play on the top 2 lines as the deadline approaches, and I think the Panthers will get a good return for him. Didn't Paul Gaustad get traded for a first rounder last year?

The Panthers are better off waiting until teams get desparate or have visions of doing some damage in the playoffs, and then trade him then.

I didn't see what Hags did that was so dumb on the too many men penalty. Anyone have a clip of it?

I didn't see, just heard Torts say Hags jumped on when he wasn't supposed to.

His post game presser actually made me laugh, his emotion is so raw and of course I wouldn't have laughed if they lost...this Callahan thing does have me bummed...just as they were turning a corner and really starting to ramp it up...the one silver lining is they have been able to overcome injuries in the past, however, Callahan is different. Just thinking about how much they missed him after breaking his ankle...the only I ever heard Torts say they sorely missed a player b/c usually he will not allow that kind of thinking...,.talk about a bittersweet point in the season...

If it is relatively short term, it could have the effect of galvanizing the team, with everybody picking up the effort and playing better to pick up the slack. I do think, however, that his injury will force the Rangers to do what needs to be done to upgrade the depth on this team, which maybe a small silver lining in the long term.

But, hopefully we are not talking about a 6-8 week injury with Callahan, because that would be very hard to deal with.

Any chance we try and use Boyle in a Callahan role? Can he play wing and be aggressive on the forecheck?

Also, assumign Kreider is out or we want him in the AHL, I think another kid (not JT) deserves a shot at the big club. Why not? Give em a game or 2 with the big club and see what they got and don't hesistate to send them back down.

Don't forget about Kreider. I would prefer leaving Boyle where he is, although I would like the idea if the Rangers acquired another center, and maybe playing Stepan between Kreider and Hagelin. Hopefully, Kreider can give the team something, because we really need him.

Can you imagine if they get a second injury, and how thin they will be? I really think they need to do something.

Torts asked for the best that Hartford had, and they send him Newbury. That should be extraordinarily revealing that in the near term, Hartford does not provide the answer.

completely unrelated observation, Brandon Dubinsky has zero goals and only 9 shots on goal in 7 games for Columbus.

Yea but its (frank)ign Newbury. I still give a kid a shot for a game. I know every game is important but I'd rather a kid with a chance to do something over Bickell on thursday. (frank) even Gilroy at forward.

Yea but can't just go by box score (look at Nash). I heard he's their #1 center and doing well by all accounts.

he is definitely the prize they got for Nash.

Seems like Dubi is continuing exactly where he left with us, he doesn't shoot the puck anymore.

i don't think boyle comes close to filling the callahan role. he does a lot of good things like blocking shots and he busts his ass pretty much every time he's out there, but have you ever seen a guy so big get knocked around so much? callahan is around 5'10 185 and his small size is something i think the team actually benefits from by rallying around it.

I wonder how the 48 game season plays into the impact Cally's loss will have.

I get the sense that seeding doesn't matter as much, and whoever gets in will have a pretty fair shot at winning it.

If we can get in the playoffs without Cally and have him return in April, maybe its best not to make any hasty moves. Play it out, and if the deadline comes and we need some help, by all means pull the trigger.

I don't know, Rags. I don't think we want to be in a situation where Torts is rolling two lines, and two defensive pairings because he doesn't trust anyone else. Plus, if the Rangers suffer another injury and need to make a trade, the leverage of their trading parter would increase significantly because they know the Rangers are desparate. I am not suggesting that the Rangers do anything stupid. I'm suggesting that they look into UFA scrapheat, and trade misfit market to add one or two low risk guys that can maybe help.

And, while I think the Rangers will make the playoffs, in a shortened season with very good parity in the conference, I would sit on my hands and take it as a guarantee they would make it despite a diminished lineup. Obviously, my opinion would be different if I though Hartford had a good pipeline of ready players, but I don't think they do.
