Yep. They're both tall. Essentially the comparison ends there for me.
- sambarugh

Any one catch his super-risky pinch play early in the game, when he was out there with THE FOURTH LINE? What better way to get burned than to take a risk like that with the team's worst players on the ice.

To all the people that are high on Myers, remember he's getting paid 5.5m this year. THIS IS HIS FOURTH SEASON. I'm tired of this, "he's young, still learning" bullpoop. He's on his way to being an albatross if this kind of play keeps up.

check the scouting report...

Foster has never had 100 hits in a season, Myers has 2x. The notion he is not pysical is flase. Defenseman don't go out of there way to hit people. They become Luke Schenn if they do

People wanna use the size comparison, it's relevant but not that accurate. Look at Prongers forst 3 seasons in the NHL, I would say he was nothing special either. People say Myers isn't physical which is not true, he actually has almost as many hits as Pronger in 09-10 season when they both played full seasons
- sbroads24

Pronger had a pedigree to him from the very beginning as a 2nd overall pick. He also had 6 seasons in a row to start his career with over 100 PIM (lockout shortened year he had 54 PIM in 43 games). The tenacity and aggressiveness was there out of the gate. Comparing Myers to Pronger is a stretch to put it politely.

For this season, I am almost looking more for the team to have a bad record, while the three young centers get plenty of experience, and begin to play better toward the end of the season, so the team can get a high (top 3-5) draft pick, which is something they have not had in some time.

It should be telling to what kind of player he is that they put him on the ice with the 4th line. Also was put out there with Grigo for his first couple of shifts

I think I left off reading on page 22, but this is my new theory.

I love Pommer, have since the ot winner vs Ottawa.

But as far as team culture goes here's my theory.

Pommer represents the dream of lindy ruff. A better than average player who listens and has totally bought into the system. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, either. I think he tries to lead by example by putting away selfish concerns and playing exactly the way the coach wants.

Lindy loves that. He wants everyone to throw away their creativity and hockey sense and give everything to the team. The ones that don't buy in, whether through inability, attitude (Roy), or whatever, are either benched(Max), cut, traded (Kassian), or admonished constantly (Vanek)

Armia has to spend a year in finland in the military or something like that. Next year....
- seedy

Kris Baker (sabresprospects.com) just confirmed on WGR that Armia is eligible to come to N.America after his season in Finlad is over.
They have 13games left, and are currently 5pts out of the playoffs.
His Military commitment has been taken care of, as he condensed OT specifically so that he could join the Sabres organization as quickly as possible.

For those who don't know,
He absolutely killed in in the World Juniors (again) with 6goals and 12points in just 6games...
The only person in the tourney with more points was Nugent-Hopkins

In Finland, Armia is 2nd on his team in goals scored with 13, despite missing 8 games due to injury (leader is former Sabre Michael Ryan with 15goals)

My point here, is that we do have help coming, even is Darcy can't swing a major trade
He'll almost for sure start in Rochester, but if Lindy can't find anyone to "click" on that 3rd line w Grigorenko, he'll most likely get his shot

This kid was projected to go #6 in his Draft, and lucky for us he somehow fell to 16...
Two years in a row we hit the jackpot
For all Darcy's faults, he has killed it at the Draft for many years now

Why is it a stretch? The whole point is young defenseman take time to develope. especially bug guys. Just because Pronger was a fighter and Myers was not does not dimiss the comparison. Myers has more skill than Pronger had as well. Not saying Myers is a HOF'er but he certainly has the skill set.

I have Armia playing 15 games or so in the AHL this season.. and then playing with us in Buffalo full time next season as the BEST CASE SCENARIO...

There's something to be said for that line of thinking too...
How was it that teamUSA was able to win the Gold in 1980,
I know I'm going way back here but that's an obvious example
We just don't have guys that can match up w Crosby, Malkin, etc... So we have to play a system...
And it can work...
New Jersey had no where close to the talent of the teams they beat along the way last year to get to the cup

I get what your saying, there has to be a balance & u need to allow your players some freedom to "create" within a system,
But u also don't want a team of "Afinogenov's" out there either
As talented as he is,
There's a reason he's no longer in the league

Based on how he outperformed, by far, guys like Grogorenko and Galchenyuk at the World JRs (not to mention many NHLers),
I see absolutely no reason he can't contribute immediately this season for the Sabres
I'm not saying he comes in and is a ppg guy,
But he could be the "finisher" Grigorenko needs on that line with him
He has a nasty shot

I still think we have a decent shot at the playoffs
Let's not overreact too much...
But if we could somehow get Seth Jones in the Draft (likely to go 2nd), the we wouldn't need to trade for the stud defensman I've been saying all along we needed
Can we get lucky enought to have a top talent again slip down to us in the draft?
It's happened 2yrs in a row...
Here's hoping for a 3rd!

Just my opinion, Avs are looking for a young prospect and a 2nd rounder?

There is something to be said about the fact that Chara didn't become the player he is now until close to age 30. Whether Myers becomes a Chara-type player (I don't think he will), or a player of a different mold, I don't think you will see him reach his full potential for a while. 6'7"+ players and above have a hard time with coordination, filling out, etc. in basketball, a sport with many of those types of guys. Hockey is even tougher.

That being said, I agree. The only thing Myers and Chara have in common is that they both eclipse 7 feet on skates.

Travis Zajac, Ilya Kovalchuk or Zach Parise would arguably be our best player if they were on the Sabres and they had all three. I know they had great support especially from their 4th line (Ryan Carter, Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier) but they also had the super stars to count on. We have none.
