Consistently good. Like, game changer good. - A_Tree
If the team plays well in front of him he shouldn't have to be game changer good just consistent.
Seriously though I doubt he will ever be that good consistent is probably as good as he will get. But at least i don't cringe everytime he leaves the net to play the puck like i do when Scrivens is in net. |

Its a good start. By filling that hole you strengthen another spot in the lineup. - senstroll
Sure - at a cost of another spot in the lineup. At least that's what it would cost the least atm to get a centre of ^that caliber. The only way I see that going in the near future is by offer sheet or FA. |

depending on what we get back, id consider it.
but im not saying "lets trade him, because hes in a minor slump" - moreso id trade him if the trade was great for the leafs and was going to push us heavily in the right direction, even if it put us back a small step at the time.
but to trade kessel for a nash type deal? F that. hes worth more on the leafs than getting a few bags of pucks and water bottle lids. |

I think its the best move for the Franchise long term.
Now of course, the return would need to be substantial... if its not, of course keep him.

Elite goal scorer who seemingly isn't affected at all by pressures of playing in Toronto or their rabidly negative media. You're right, we have no use for that. |

There is holes in both of their games.
Yes, you do need your goalie to steal games. Same goes for offense and defense.

what about trading for someone same caliber but more fits carlyles style? since kessel clearly doesnt fit into it |

I believe trading away Kessel would be a mistake. Chances of getting the right return for him are probably small and he'd only go on to score 50 with his new team. Trading away stars (young with a bright future) never works for Toronto. |

I didn't say we had no use for him, but thanks for misquoting me. He's weak and he's a complimentary player on a team that has a proper core; we are a team that does not have a proper core, ergo if the right offer came along, I'd dump his ass. |

Offer sheet is a disaster waiting to happen, the only players worth offer sheeting you have to over pay as the teams with match, and then you are giving away more 1sts...The leafs cant take more risks like that.
Free agents do not seem to want to play for an average team (any worth a damn), thats all the leafs are with the current lineup.

exactly.. this is all i am saying. its not his fault he is being used iin the wrong place out of necessity.
but to turn around and say he's useless and not worth anything is just well.. stupid.
i mean, if you decide to drag race.. and you bring a 91' four banger ford tempo, is it the cars fault you lose the race? - Dozzer
True, but it doesn't mean that you renew your lease on the Tempo when it comes up on July 1st, 2013.
He's a third line centre, except he isn't physical. His numbers are inflated due to the ice time he is given by default. He hasn't scored anything this year that I couldn't have done, and he has missed 100 golden opportunities.
And teams can key on Kessel, because they don't have to worry about Bozak.
Do I hate the guy? No.
Would I re-sign him at the end of the year?
Nope. He'll be looking for more money than he is worth. I'd rather go elsewhere. |

The key problem is the contract/desire to play here. Everything I've seen leads me to believe he'd be much happier in a non-hockey city. Just speculation, of course, but the risk of him walking for nothing and scoring 50 with an other team would be pretty demoralizing. |
