you obviously never played sports.

YOU NEVER TANK.

NEVER.

Leafs haven't been able to draft franchise players without it.

When did the Leafs draft Datsyuk or anybody remotely close to him?

Never happened before huh?

No kidding.

- Two_For_Truth

Borje Salming - not EVEN DRAFTED.

Nonis has been on the job for a month. Come on UG, go to bed, this is really making you look bad tonight.
- systemtool

Now you can't say he did a good job because then you would be complimenting the Canucks but if you say he did a bad job then I would be correct. Your solution? Just completely ignore his previous drafting record and pretend it never happened.

Good work.

We're all frustrated, trust me.

The problem here is that in one breath hes saying the Leafs cant draft for poop, that its a proven fact. Then in the next breath, he insists that its the only way this team can be successful, through drafting.

Its absurd.

- systemtool

Basically, he's saying we should draft Daigle's for the next 5 years and we'll be beast.

Kaberle didn't have such a bad career as a leaf either.

You can't dredge a franchises drafting as an utter failure because they haven't stumbled on a datsyuk.

And your point? You have to go back 35 years...

Seriously...

how long has calgary been looking for a C for iginla? 10-12 years?
- wingz4life

Iggy is all right in my book. The night he called back all the Flames onto the ice to shake Trevor Linden's hand on the event of his last game... that type of class should never be taken lightly or forgotten.

You guys had "the guy". Unfortunately, the team wasn't assembled around him properly IMO and/or things didn't go your way and you were eliminated in the ECF....twice.

It takes a lot of good fortune as well as being in position to challenge for the cup year after year (for the most part) in order to win it.

You could make the same case for a good portion of the league.

Not finding a (frank)ing datsyuk in the 7th round of the draft isn't ammo to bash a franchises drafting.

Nonis has different scouts now. You do know GM's don't actually do the drafting right?

Last 2 Leaf drafts, given where they've been picking, are looking pretty good.

The problem is you think the only way is to 'rebuild' and that 'build' is not possible.

We can take the Leafs right now, and keep 'building' our team, making prudent trades and drafting with our own 1sts... See Schenn, Kadri. (Trades for Phaneuf, Lupul) and good FA signings (Unfortunately, this department is lacking)

- twiztedmike

The problem is you think that "building" on what they have now is going to work.

The reason this team needs to rebuild is because it doesn't have the right pieces to build on. The foundation isn't there. It isn't strong enough.

You could keep "building" on what they have now and you would end up with an 8th placed team that loses in the 1st round.

Schneider and Bourdon were good picks. He took Edler too but credit goes to Gradin.

Its real rare you'll get a star player in the 6th round, thats fair. We're not even saying build the Leafs off 6th round picks though. UG is just spinning facts.

The truth is the Leafs have done well with their 4th-6th rounders. Stalberg was a 6th, Gunnarson was a 6th. Frattin is a 4th. Stralman a 7th. Komarov a 6th. All have made their way to the NHL.

But you can do well with 1st and 2nd round picks. And i believe the Leafs have drafted well with their 1sts and 2nd's thus far. And I believe they've done a good job pulling a team with almost NOTHING post lockout and restocked the team with some good young players with promise.

Without INTENTIONALLY throwing games and trying to lose by intentionally not trying to ice a competitive team.

Where the Canucks had been drafting, and where the Leafs will draft are worlds apart.

Nothing to ignore here, but your ignorance and failing attempts to cover it up.

Furthermore, if you're going to go on about Nonis inability to draft, the last thing you should be doing is suggesting he build this team through the draft.

Excellent solution. Good work.
