Like trading Kadri and Frattin. Those guys sure are decreasing the odds lately...

And where does this guy come from? Is he 32 years old? Or is he 22 years old? Does he cost you half of your team to acquire? Or does he come for free? Is he signed for 7 years at 10 million dollars per year or is he cheap on an ELC? - Two_For_Truth
Maybe it's Kadri. Maybe we've already done the dirty work and since he's playing so well he'll become a Top center.
Maybe we just needed to develop what we had in the guys we've already drafted.

Seriously. Where is this guy you speak of going to come from?
Obviously, you don't know exactly who it is or when it's going to happen but think of if logically. I'm sure you're capable of doing so.
Where is this guy going to come from?
The draft? You honestly believe the Leafs are capable of pulling a guy out of the 2nd to 7th round? Hell, even the middle of the 1st round is tough for the Leafs.
An UFA who is probably in his 30s and costs way more than he should? Probably only gives you three or four years as a window of opportunity too.
A trade? Any guy who is worth acquiring is almost never available and when they are available, there's usually something wrong with him. Or, he costs way too much to acquire and ends up destroying the team depth.
Think about it. Where is the most efficient way to get "the guy" you expect to appear one day? - Two_For_Truth
Rangers. Nash, Richards, Gaborik. 2 out of 3 were FA's. 1 was Trade.

Find me something you've said that turned out to work. And sorry, another non-top ten pick in Brown. My mistake. - Viktory
Just because the Kings managed to draft Brown 13th overall, doesn't mean the Leafs can. The Leafs, historically speaking, are really bad at finding elite talent like that, even when they don't trade the pick away. |

Are you kidding, or have you just given up and are now acting silly as some form of defense mechanism?
Through trades, development, draftings or signings. Lots of avenues.

How many Leaf draft picks are as good as Brown, Kopitar, Quick and Doughty?

Check your facts. Brown was a 1st round pick.
Find me a player the Leafs have drafted outside of the top ten who turned out to be like Kopitar or a goalie 72nd overall who turned out like Quick. Good luck finding him.
And yet, without Doughty, they don't have enough to win it all. - Two_For_Truth

Maybe we can steal some thin air from Poland so we can draft with our own picks, make trades, and make some signings...If only....sigh... - systemtool

No, no. This bs you've been spewing for years and years to the point of making everyone's eyes bleed, is about the only acceptable standard being to gut the franchise of its only legitimate talent.. And draft in the top few picks.
How many current top ten draft picks are on the leafs roster, as opposed to la's |

Who says they won't draft well? - Viktory
History says. Leafs have never been able to draft well enough to build a Cup contending team.
I think they've drafted pretty well in the last few years. Kadri, Gunnerson, Reimer, Frattin and the American league is full of guys they've drafted who are either developing or ready to make the big step. They also went out and signed guys like kostka who were nice surprises thus far.
Please. Not a single one of those guys is good enough to be "the guy" on a Cup winner. Either you grossly overestimate the Leafs future or you grossly underestimate what it really takes to win a Cup in the NHL.

Judging Nonis based on the drafts of GM's past is lunacy.
And if the Leafs are that bad at drafting its even more absurd to suggest they should tank.
You're sitting here female doging about the Leafs historic inability to draft, yet keep insisting that thats how this team should be built.
So just because LA drafted Brown, it doesnt mean the Leafs can. But because the Hawks drafted Toews, it means the Leafs can.
Holy crap this is hilarious poop. |

The solution here is for the Leafs to draft where they are the least likely to fail. Once they have at least one or two legit franchise players from doing that, it gives them a lot of time to get things right. |

Seemed to have some confidence and the goal and assist will help have to see how he goes from here. He is young so mistakes will happen but knowing our fellow leaf fans we will want to get ridif him before he matures and interferes with us losing |

Historically speaking, every Original 6 team has had bad drafting. The Rangers, Chigaco, the Bruins had some ridiculous droughts for Stanley cups before they won them in the recent (and not so recent) past. How about the Habs current team in Hamilton? Just full of quality prospects, I imagine.
I simply say the drafting we've done isn't as horrible as you make it out to be.
