So we don't have any Stanley Cups, does that mean we don't have any bad contracts too?

I wouldnt deal him.

Id deal Liles, MacArthur and Grabo.

Only way I would deal Grabo is if it brings back a number 1 C. Other than that, it's not really worth it.

- jbold

only way i move grabo is if he brings back a #1C" so were goona move our #2C and bring in a #1C?

awesome, where do we sign up!?

im assuming you mean in a package of some sort, which i get. But i dont see us gaining too much moving our best center right now. we need to move other assets to garnish a top C, so we have some center depth, and i dont mean 3rd and 4th line centers either!

moving out mac, franson, prospects who we dont see fitting in the future is the way to go, or the hope of a big FA signing.

not trying to put down your idea, cause its not horribly bad - im just saying moving grabo for a better #1c is great and all, but if they dont gel with kessel then we basically just moved our #2c for a #2c and possibly overpaid.

kessel's return will net so much less than was spent to get him, I wonder if the Leaf management team has the balls to deal him.
- Barx

They need only trade him if management feels he won't re-sign. Be sure they will re-sign him if they can.

It's been 5 games, jesus. Everyone speaks as if he scores 82 goals a season, 37 over a course of 82 games...So let's see here, maybe 20-25 over 48, relax. FIVE GAMES.

You should trade him because he is going to walk when he becomes a UFA. This kid has taken so much abuse from Leaf fans and the media in his time in TO that I bet he can't wait to go to a new place and have a fresh start without hearing about everything it cost to bring him there and comparing seasons with Seguin and Hamilton. For that reason amongst others the Leafs should deal him and build properly.

Pathetic. It is the media and some fans that drive me nuts. WE ARE 5 GAMES IN. Seguin has 1 goal an empty netter. Kadri has 5 points in 5 games...so I am assuming by this logic we could get Seguin for Kadri? No way we should trade Phil. Trade players like GRABO and Kulemin. Grabo makes more than Phil right now. We trade Kessel, will be looking for another sniper like him. So what if he gets paid 7 or 8 mil, HE HAS EARNED THAT. Trade Phaneuf, and the rest of this so called core. Keep Gardiner and Kadri. And Reilly. We are a rich team why does it matter if a sniper like Kessel gets 7 mil? Everyone says Rick Nash is better, not according to the stats. Only thing about Nash is that he is a big forward. But Kessel is the better producer. Nash doesn't even have one 80 point season. Kessel does with no center. Ok im done p.s. KEEP KESSEL.

I think it has as much to do with the team likely to struggle in this short season and it being his contract year next season.

Yeah they expect him to have 30 goals already. Malkin has how many goals right now? Crosby has 3.

The problem isn't Kessel, the problem is we don't have a 1st line center. If we plan on going after Getzlaf in the offseason, but we want to dump Kessel, what's the point? Who's going to be his winger? The only way Kessel becomes expendable is if we acquire Perry as well. Again though, all a pipe dream.

The fans like Kessel and appreciate his talent. They don't blame him for the state of things. He's a victim of circumstance.

The trade talk is about whether he sticks around or not after next season.

which kane are you referring to? not that it matters.

winnipeg isn't trading evandar kane for kessel straight up, and they CERTAINLY aren't throwing in a pick.

and i'm pretty sure if you're refering to patrick kane, again, i doubt chicago is moving him. however, if they did, it's the leafs who are including the pick, not the hawks. patrick kane is a better player then kessel, IMO.

i don't think anyone is suggesting that he should be traded because he's having a slow start. the common belief is that, IF it looks like he won't resign in toronto, then trade him. he's signed to a good contract for this year and next, is obviously still a very good player, which means he has a buttload of value.

he's obviously not a player to build your team around, and if you aren't gonna re-sign him, then you might aswell move him, and get some assets that will help you in the future.

that being said, the ONLY WAY i'm moving him this season is if i'm getting a top line center (or young kid with real top line potential) OR a pick that's likely to be in the top 5 (plus some other assets obviously)

That is the problem though. We aren't going to win with this group. Why don't we keep our best player, and trade everyone else for picks and prospects. We absolutely need a Seth Jones or Mackinnon franchise type. And it is a deep draft. We could get other good players as well. We sucked for a while now, whats a couple of more season going to do? Unless you think we can make the playoffs with this group.
