i agree that, offensively, he's not quite there yet. however, he is only 21, and is putting up the same numbers that kessel did at that age. add to that, the fact that kane is a bit more of a 3 zone player, and has a real physical edge to his game.

all "leaf hate" aside, if i'm a gm, looking at the whole package (talent, age, contract, etc), i'm taking kane over kessel every time.

It wasn't an insult. I thought you were a Leafs hater, and I read "any smart gm wouldn't part with a 1st for Kessel, unless they are a contending team." A team like Florida could potentially part with a 1st. They aren't contenders.

he was replying to my comment, saying that they'd want a top 5. i think any team would trade a 1st rounder if it was in the teens or higher, but a team who's likely to finish with a top 5 pick probably needs teh pick more than they need kessel.

kessel is the perfect addition to a team who's looking to make a run right now. i think it's already been shown that he isn't the ideal player for a rebuilding team to build around.

i HIGHLY DOUBT that the avalanche are going to trade their top center, and a pick that's almost SURELY going to be in the top 5, for kessel.

even if the leafs added, i'm not sure what they could add that would make that deal happen. obviously you aren't including guys like kadri, gardiner, reilly, etc, so anything toronto threw in would be filler.

there is NO CHANCE colorado makes that deal.

He could probably get 50 playing with Sid. He was on pace for 50 with Boston playing with Savard, until an injury slowed him down. He finished with 36 that year in only 70 games. But could you imagine Sid, Malkin, Kessel, Neal, Letang...

I wish I could get off the bandwagon. My ass has been stapled to it for too long!!

The only way I trade Kessel is either 2 ways:

1. We trade Kessel for Getzlaf, with promise of an extension. Hopefully by acquiring Getzlaf first, we can lure Perry in the offseason, in effect replacing Kessel's wing position.

2. We end up with like the 10th overall pick this year, we package our pick along with Kessel for the 1st overall and select Mackinnon.

Those are the only 2 ways I'd be comfortable parting with Kessel.

I would rather deal Kessel for a good prospect and some draft picks and have 2 picks in the 1st round.
