Acquiring Kessel is very possible. Shero has put himself in a position where he can afford to give up a 1st round pick and a d prospect for a top winger. We have 5-6 D prospects with NHL potential and we will not use them all if Letang, Orpik, and Nisk stay for at least 4-5 years. I'd rather use a 1st round pick in part of a deal to acquire a proven 30-40 goal scorer rather than using it to pick an unproven 18 year old. - drummer829
If it would get kessell, it move the first and a d prospect. my only worry would be retaining people under the cap at this point. the article said he would be looking for 7 to 8 a year. if thats true, then he is no where worth that. id love to have him for sid, but he realistically will do nothing but contribute offensively (although with crosby he breaks 40) |

To the 55% who want to trde Despres, pffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suck it.
In other news, Pens will need to be Sharp and I gave Sutter a solid C but no more, yet. He has shown some good stick reach on defense. |

Interested to see how Brian Strait looks tonight. He's their 4th most used defensemen based on shifts and TOI. Glad he got a chance to get some real NHL minutes. - rival22
He's looked good from the games I've seen. |

If he stays at his cap hit then yes he is worth it. Some of you may disagree, but If Bennett could at least become a 3rd line winger, Kennedy becomes expendable as well |

the thought of kessel as an 8 million dollar player is pretty sickening though. that number used to be reserved for true superstars. as much as id want him, he isnt that. |

Speaking of trades I was watching the Oilers/AVs game last night and they had an interesting fact. The Nordiques drafted Sundin, Owen Nolan, and Lindros all in a row and all were traded to build the strong Avs team of the 90's. They were discussing if the Oilers need to do that with Hall, Hopkins and Yakapuv. And none of the Quebec/AV's that were traded ever went on to win the cup. |

Not saying that Bennett is a viable checking line winger, but I was surprised to see him listed at 6' 2" and 207 lbs at the Pens camp last month. I always had this image of him being a scrawny kid, but that is James Neal size.

He's thin I think that 207 was a bit ambitious. |

The Lindros thing was it's own animal, and the Nordiques made out like bandits. They ended up getting Forsberg, Ricci, a draft pick that eventually led to the trade for Patrick Roy, and a much needed $15 mil for that franchise.
That deal worked out, but it was a deal that they were forced to make. No one is forcing Edmonton to deal their players, I would hold onto them as long as I could.

Next year at the beginning of training camp if say he will be about 205-210, but he did look a little thin for 207. |

Someone reference the Carl Sneep trade (an conditional pick) earlier. I just found this, and it was the first time I've seen the details.
Traded Carl Sneep to Stars for 2013 conditional seventh round pick (if Sneep plays 10 or more regular season games in 2012-13) (?-?) on 2013-01-24
http://www.prosportstrans...rades/Future/Penguins.htm
So... that's probably never going to happen unless the Stars run into some real blueline problems lol. |

It was a ontract dump, more or less. Sneep was apparently 12th or 13th on the Pens D depth chart w/ guys like Harrington, Matta, & Pouliet due to come into the system soon. Seems more like a favor to a guy who had no future w/ the Pens organization. |

I doubt LA wants to give up Scuderi, Matt Greene is out for at least a month, possibly the season, and they havent played well as of yet, especially defensively, that being said I would say Scuderi is probably their top defensive defenseman, and he has some puck moving skills, maybe im forgetting about someone, doughty obviously is their top D man, but regardless hes still an offensive defenseman... |

Bennett was out for an extended period of time w/ the wrist injury. He could have just spent all his time in the gym doing leg work & stuff. That'd add weight, but not really be that apparent. |
