Horc seems to get ripped, but he's exactly what we need as a 3rd line center. I'm still for eventually buying him out, but the guy is being a pretty good shutdown center for us and is working well on the PP in front of the net. - Lahey
Man there are better options -Horcoff for his defenisive role could be a 4th liner... IMO the Belanger line seemed more fitting as our 3rd line... and in all honesty 3rd and 4th line FWDs and Cs with size can be had for less than the moon now... I agree with Sanford- Laich would be a great option... Let Smyth move straight to an assistant coach role give the ice time to Harti and this team improves right away...

There probably is, but not right now there isn't. I see no point in bashing a player that is doing his job well simply because he's overpaid. He isn't going anywhere until this off-season at the earliest. Time to get over it.
Problem with Laich is why does Washington trade him? - Lahey
That team has had serious issues for a while. A few great years but didnt get it done and I see nothing to indicate they'll be getting any better. They dont need to trade him but if given the right package they might consider it. Theyd probably be a lot more worried about keeping Backstrom.
Put Hall-RNH-Eberle against the other team's best line and see what he does. Horc may look like a liability against a good team, but I hate to see one of the kids trying to shut down a good teams #1 line - Lahey
See I think you could put Eberle on any line and the puck will end up in the offensive zone for our team... Thing is the kids can play those roles but then we have no scoring line -the only scoring line 5 games deep that consistently creates chances... all I am saying is we are not handcuffed by 1 line doing all the 5 on 5 offensive play... I hope we can get the second line going... I would like to see Harti after a few more games or MPS graduate to the second line and move Hemsky down... or management should pull the trigger to make this team better... I hope I eat crow but simply Smyth Horcoff and Whitney are what is wrong with this team right now and will be come seasons end... Whitney may change but his non urgent ways make me think otherwise...
Center. If Gagner is still here, then he goes to wing. Although one has to think a gagner or prv is going to WSH in a deal for Laich. - Lahey
Without a doubt. I dont think Gagner would fit as a third line C. Its the kind of move snd decision that winners eventually make. Gags is doing pretty good so far though.

I don't see Laich as a problem or solution. Their problem has always been that they couldn't get their 4 offensive stars to click at the same time. Ovi, Semin, Backstrom, and Green have all been elite talents at one time or another, but they never could all click.
I don't know what the answer is there now, although it does appear they are (frank)ed in goal. Tighter system might be what they need. Laich could help with that I'd think.
When is Jones back? This really makes things a tad messy... Likely MPS back to AHL then?? I think he would learn more in a 3rd line role and his size and speed he has used more- maybe he will benefit more working on a line with Harti as we saw last night it cant hurt...

I actually don't think the 2nd line is as bad as it's made out to be. Yak just needs to learn a bit.
You really are reaching if you think guys that play the 7th and 10th most ES time for forwars and the guy that is 3rd for d-man is the issue. Although that does seem odd for Whitney to play more than Smid at ES.

I like the prv-Belanger-teemu line last night. I would like to see then stick together and see where it leads. I hope fistric gets put back in.

Seemed like we really used that line yesterday. Our 3rd and 4th line were kinda interchangeable. With a shorter season having everyone be able to play 10 minutes a night will be the best for everyone.
I liked Hartkinen but I thought he really breathed some life into Belanger and Paajarvi. I don't think he is ready for the PP yet. I think he could be by the end of this year but he looked out of place. However that 4th line really became a power house for the team and made the third line obsolete.
I do think that we need to put this size thing with Gagner to rest though. He is the same size as Callahan and Ott who are two of the top five hitters (Yahoo stats) both this year and last. He is just shy of 6 feet and just over 190 lbs. He can build some bulk and crash the net more but right now he is the only one consistently getting points. I know it was an empty net goal but it was a goal because of the physical battle he won for the puck to pass it. I think at some point you need to move him to a positive since he has had a point in every contest and has been instrumental in our games. Not bad for a guy that was fourth line just a couple years ago.
I do agree that Hemsky and Whitney need to go. We need to make them look pretty for a couple games and ship them to someone stupid. I am thinking NYI. They like to trade off all their good players (historically anyways). NYI has no real D other than Streit and he is a UFA at the end of the year. I would love to trade those two and resign him. If you have see him play live he is AMAZING behind the play and positionally. IMO the most underrated Dman in the game, even to have him as a rental instead of whitney for the rest of the season would be fun to watch.
There are teams like Detroit and even Colorado that might be interested in Hemsky. I don't know what the return is, but teams looking to excel now. I know Colorado is looking for someone to bring their rookie of the year out of his 1 point year and was expecting bigger things. Detroit is doing nothing and might just enjoy Whitney and Hemsky on their line since their top line has Brunner playing on it. Despite the hype and his 2 points, he is not good. I think Hemsky could be the Burrows to the duo. There are teams that are not looking to wait to the deadline in this short season to make moves.
