Ya but having Vanek could have changed the mentality of management. They might have decided to spend the cash to overpay for some UFA's which could have changed their path.

I think we have a great goalie prospect to watch in Garret Sparks, he's shown real improvement this year as opposed to last year:

2011-2012: 59 games played, 27-25-4, 0.907 pct, 3.11 gaa, 5 shutouts
2012-2013: 41 games played, 25-9-4, 0.921 pct, 2.52 gaa, 6 shutouts

Not too shabby, now hopefully the Leafs don't pull a Rask/Raycroft.
