You also have to consider the impact Vanek would have made on the Oilers.

I'd imagine he'd work in the same way Kessel did by providing a mediocre team enough points to stay out of the basement

Buffalo was backed into a corner after they lost Briere and Drury as UFAs. They had to match it to show their fans they would spend money on stars.

Whomever the Sabres picked would have been grossly overrated by GARTH to the point that you would be convinced they had drafted four 1st overall picks anyway.

I've always dismissed Centre Ice. But now that I've been able to watch for free I don't know if I can give it up.
