? I thought they chose Biggs with the late 1st they got back in the Kaberle trade.
- 1979AD

They used that pick to move up to get Biggs.

Most good movies made are before our time. Again it is pointless until it is known if he walks, we as fans do not have a clue what he is thinking. Chances are you are never going to get a return equal to Kessel, wishing on a hope and prayer with a late 1st pick and prospect to be a franchise player is beyond a slim chance.

Are the hopes and prayers for Kessel to become a franchise player more likely?

Why the (frank) did they send him to the A for conditioning when the all star break was right around the corner!? Leafs mgmt doesn't have a Marlies schedule and/or access to the internet? They should make it a priority to get at least one, but preferrably both of those things.
- 1979AD

He got to play Saturday for the Marlies. They may be sending him back down once the all star break is over too.

I'd play him tonight. He looked fast in the first period vs the Islanders, had some nice rushes. Didn't do much after that though.

One game, then 5-6 day break.... way to think that through.

he got a game in.. more than worth it.

the AHL team isnt even practicing over the all star break.. the leafs are.. common sense. especially since moving him up and down is no risk.. hell.. its not even travel.

Kevin McGran from the star said that gardiner is coming back up after that game to spend time with the leafs when the AHL is off for the all star game, but he thinks he'll go back again when the break is over.

Just seems silly. One of the advantages of having the farm team down the street.

You don't see the irony in sending a player down for conditioning when the team is dormant for nearly a week? I do. Not a big deal, though.

Where did I say he is a franchise player? Many here think we can get a better player and a franchise player in the deal, very slim chance that happens.

I have said that Kessel is an elite player, any one who thinks other wise really have a prejudice against him, in the last three years, only about 2% of players in the NHL have scored as he has.

to get him in game ice time

there is no irony

no risk and this way he gets a game in.

i'm actually quite surprised you have such a big issue with this

At least with the prospect + pick there's a chance you get a franchise player. With Kessel, we know what we have.

I'm not advocating trading him now, the time isn't right. I would wait until his contract year to see if he's willing to extend at a reasonable cap hit (5.5ish). If he clearly wants to go, you gotta move him. Yes, it puts the Leafs in a Nash/Luongo type of situation, but they should still be able to get a mid-late 1st pick and a young serviceable player or two.

You either have to be winning or selling the future which shows the promise of winning.
Now at this point I do not see either happening.

And its not just Leaf nation, why are the leafs at the bottom of every "experts" predictions.
