I can't remember where but his name was tossed around a little over a year ago. Even more than that, they said that he was heavily pursuing the job. I remember thinking "wow, with that cushy tv job?"
Smith's first draft:
1st Round: Kyle Okposo
2nd Round: Jesse Joensuu
3rd Round: Robin Figren
4th Round: Rhett Rakhshani, Jase Weslosky, Tomas Marcinko, Doug Rogers
5th Round: Shane Sims, Kim Johansson
6th Round: Andrew MacDonald, Brian Day, Stefan Ridderwall
7th Round: Troy Mattila
2 Full Time NHLers out of 13 picks. 3 total with NHL time
Snow's First draft:
1 9 Bailey, Josh
2 36 Trivino, Corey
2 40 Ness, Aaron
2 53 Hamonic, Travis
3 66 Toews, David
3 72 Niemi, Jyri !
3 73 Petrov, Kirill
4 96 Donovan, Matt
4 102 Ullstrom, David
5 126 Poulin, KevinKevin
5 148 Martin, Matt
6 156 Spurgeon, Jared
6 175 DiBenedetto, Justin
9 players played in NHL...6 with significant time...
Just sayin'. - keaner17
You can just say all you want but 2 are legit NHL'ers at this point. 5 of the nine prob wouldn't have touched NHL ice with any other team besides us. Also that draft was considered strong as compared to others so far. Just saying |

If I had to pick back in 2006 between the 2, I would have picked Smith.
I would not want Smith to walk in here today & start molding this team in his imagine.. so if you ask me today I pick Snow.. his plan is in full effect.

I understand this opinion. The only problem I have with this statement is what is his plan? It's changed a couple of times as far as what he wants this team to look like when all is said and done. I know you are aware of this. This is one of the things I have a problem with. There doesn't seem to be consistency or a method to his madness so to speak? |

so now you're using the Kings as a reference? Them making the playoffs prior seasons may have had something to do with it? Playoff experience. Maybe? Watch the Kings three years ago and watch the Isles now. You're saying they're comparable? - Cptmjl
since when is there a prerequisite to sneak into the playoffs as an 8th seed and win the stanley cup? |

Ah but see, this is what I mean by the spin game. The FACTS we have are that Snow's first draft was far more porductive than Smith's.
On a side note, it makes me ill to see Claude Giroux taken at 22 while we took Okposo at 7!!! |

21 teams passed on Giroux. many teams got players a lot worse than KO |

Of course. There is only one person who would've chosen Snow and he did. Meh, maybe theres one more person I can think of who would've picked Snow too? |

But he chose Smith first.. Smith couldn't do the job that he was hired to do & was sent packing, maybe if Smith had done the job he agreed to do he would still have a job & this team would look completely different. For better or worse.

Smith gets days to do the job he was hired to do. Snow gets nearly a decade with worse results. Only in Islander Land with Islander math!
For the record, I don't really have any love for Neil Smith (heck, I hardly knew him as GM here). But that situation was a cluster-F.

he gets days because he took a job, that he said he could do, then said he couldn't do it... epic fail.
