What are you saying though? Was he actively seeking employment? Do you know of teams that shunned him or decided not to approach him? You guys play devils advocate to this degree on Snow's behalf constantly.

he has been interviewed for GM jobs since his departure from the Rags, so yes im saying he was actively seeking a GM position.

Didn't recall the one with the Grizzlies? I remember the Montoya one. After Johnson he should retire from fighting. Then again maybe he shouldn't?

You have a bad memory evidently? Sillinger was a servicable foward and was known as such, also known for being a good quality veteran leader. Comparing him to someone who is so obviously washed up and was mailing it in for two seasons is a bad analogy.
- Cptmjl

Sillinger was typically a 10-15 goal scorer who cashed in based on a career year prior. He was a journeyman who had played with 12 teams prior to the Islanders...TWELVE!

Rolston was also long in tooth but had recorded three consecutive 30 goal seasons just two years prior. I'd say that neither were consdered big signings at the time and would have been considered of similar impact prior to their respective seasons.

Too many things to take on here! Sillinger was the ultimate in NHL journeymen. Despite how big of a bust Rolston is, I wouldn't say that was any bigger of a signing at the time. Witt was definitely a good one but unfortunately he gave us one good year and then couldn't even keep up after that.

As for Nolan, like Smith, I wasn't happy when we signed him. There's a reason no one contacted Nolan before the Isles or since. The guy coaches with no system other than yelling 'go get em' and is apparently a richard. The Isles hadn't brought in a true established coach since Milbury himself.

It very well could be on Snow, but I think there are so many negative variables here that it's tought to confidently point the finger at him as the reason no one wants to come here. Not with NVMC, a 20 year reputation, an uncertain future and still not being considered a contender.

Remember, this coming offseason will be the first in which we can pitch a new stadium in our future. Let's see how it goes.

- keaner17

Nolan is the last winning coach this team has had since Laviolette. He won in Buffalo, he won on the Isles. What he does seems to work, whether he has a "system" or not. I'd take Nolan over Gordon, Capuano and any one else on the Isles bench (Thompson, Weight) any day of the week.

Keep in mind, Nolan wasn't let go because he was a d**k, which he might have been. He was let go because he wanted job security knowing that he was about to inherit a team full of rookies and low-level NHLers in the last year of his contract with Snow going into full rebuild mode. The Isles didn't want to give him that. Nolan knew that coaches are judged on wins and losses. He knew he wasn't going to win a lot after the "rebuild" went into full swing, so he wanted a contract extension.

Nolan may not have been the greatest coach, but he's a hell of a lot better than the crap that's been occupying the bench since he left. Truth is, if they didn't want Nolan any longer, they should have brought in an established coach at any cost who had a track record or developing young players. They didn't do that.

Correct. He did. Ask anyone of those 12 teams about Mike Sillinger and they'll tell you the same thing none of which is negative. Can you say the same for Rolston? Ask any Devil fan that question. As far as the second part I will 100% completely disagree with you. It'd be safe to say most of us knew what we were getting when we signed Rolston. Some of us(myself included)wanted to believe otherwise but we knew he was nothing more than a player who had a salary that would help Snow reach the floor because he wasn't capable of filling that hole with a player that could actually help the team. With Sillinger we knew we were getting a grinder that had good experience.

so now you're using the Kings as a reference? Them making the playoffs prior seasons may have had something to do with it? Playoff experience. Maybe? Watch the Kings three years ago and watch the Isles now. You're saying they're comparable?

I can't remember where but his name was tossed around a little over a year ago. Even more than that, they said that he was heavily pursuing the job. I remember thinking "wow, with that cushy tv job?"

Smith's first draft:
1st Round: Kyle Okposo
2nd Round: Jesse Joensuu
3rd Round: Robin Figren
4th Round: Rhett Rakhshani, Jase Weslosky, Tomas Marcinko, Doug Rogers
5th Round: Shane Sims, Kim Johansson
6th Round: Andrew MacDonald, Brian Day, Stefan Ridderwall
7th Round: Troy Mattila
2 Full Time NHLers out of 13 picks. 3 total with NHL time

Snow's First draft:
1 9 Bailey, Josh
2 36 Trivino, Corey
2 40 Ness, Aaron
2 53 Hamonic, Travis
3 66 Toews, David
3 72 Niemi, Jyri !
3 73 Petrov, Kirill
4 96 Donovan, Matt
4 102 Ullstrom, David
5 126 Poulin, KevinKevin
5 148 Martin, Matt
6 156 Spurgeon, Jared
6 175 DiBenedetto, Justin

9 players played in NHL...6 with significant time...
Just sayin'.

If I had to pick back in 2006 between the 2, I would have picked Smith.

I would not want Smith to walk in here today & start molding this team in his imagine.. so if you ask me today I pick Snow.. his plan is in full effect.
