I got his autograph at Montgomery Ward's in the Lockport Mall circa 1975.

Thats debatable. What other team in sports that was knocking on the door of a championship dismantled its team for no reason? Us and the Edmonton Oilers. Differrence is the Oilers have since stockpiled young talent by totally sucking, and we havent. In fact we've been putting a patchwork roster together ever since and this years roster makes less sense than ever. They have no identity except Ryan Miller and the first line.

Like I said in an earlier post, with the salary cap in place, how do you get superstars to come to a less than exciting City like Buffalo or Edmonton? Either suck and draft them, lure them with an existing winning culture. Thats it. Brad Richards can pull $6.66 mil a year from any team he wants. Unless he has a certain personality that likes small town places, he's going to choose New York everytime.

I would say you need to have a super star come in say every 3rd year. Once the players contract is abotu to come due and cat afford trade for picks get another super star.

I still dont understand how Pittsburgh can afford all those guys. But then again math isnt my strong point.

Sabres have had the talent to win the past 7 years. At some point its the coaching decisions, system and training that have to be the reason a team does not maximize its talent.
