I'm more excited about this teams future than most... I like the look of a some of these guys. Kassian is still a bit of a project but if he can keep it up.. most fans will be saying.. Cody who????

In all honesty, who do you have as far as prospects go? I know Eddie Lack... And that's it.

Scary that Kyle Clifford was one of the 6 players Gillis would have traded Hodgson for....

If I was Gillis I would have traded Hodgson for a good nights sleep... boy does he look exhausted all the time.

Yeah they were shutdown nicely by the Kings. I have the Blues winning the West this year, but the Kings are still going to be a really tough team to beat in a 7 game series.
- Nucker101

We need to get there first, and the way we are currently playing? Not a chance.

That's a dangerous attitude to take . 1/8 of the season is over and by the time Kesler and Booth are back it could be 3/8 gone and then they need to get in game shape. The team is playing pretty poor overall and 2 players won't save the team.

They need to find ways to start winning.

Didn't you blow a 3-1 lead to NYI?? getting outscored 6-1 in the last 2 periods. And then lost 5 to 2 to NYR after giving up 5 unanswered??

At least we got a point...

There is pretty much only one fan base who shouldn't be coming in here laughing... and yet, here you are.

My standings go... San jose... Chicago.... Minny.. with St louis 4th and Vancouver 5th... LA in 10th!

Those are my surprise picks... I just feel a combination of stanley cup hangover and Quick not being able to compare to last year will be the ultimate demise.

- kneughter

It's hard to predict the regular season standing at this point, but I see the Blues winning the west come playoff time if they stay healthy. They have such a deep, complete team. I think whoever wins the Central(CHI/STL) will be at the top of the regular season standings with San Jose or LA in second. If I had to take a shot at it:

1. STL(My pick to win the cup if healthy)
2. LA(close race with SJ)
3. VAN(I think MIN will fade and we'll turn it on)
4. CHI(lock)
5. SJ(look great but I'm not sold on them as contenders again just yet)
6. MIN(also look good, but have questions about their defense)
7. DET(still think Babcock gets them in)
8. EDM(I could see PHX squeezing in if their offense continues to click)

Bubble Teams: COL/PHX/ANA

Out East, Carolina has impressed me big time and same goes for Ottawa but it's still early.

Kings are a lock to make it unless Quick goes down. I love watching Kopitar play and Scuderi is very underrated.

Schroeder has impressed me defensively, but not so much offensively. Connauton has regressed a bit, no? Cannata I haven't kept track of much. Jensen looks really promising. We'll have to see how Corrado and Gaunce do once they're out of the OHL.

I would still be shocked to see us miss the playoffs, it's not like we're getting totally outplayed(outside of the first ANA game). SJ could have been a much diffident game if not for a couple of total bonehead mistakes and some close calls that could have easily have been goals. I could care less where we finish, just as long as we're not playing STL/LA in the first round and our core players are healthy by the time the playoffs start. All it takes is a hot streak and for a team to go on a run.

i hate to say it but canucks are headed in the wrong direction...

same thing happen to Sens

think eventually the canucks will come back hard in the cup finals, but not this year.... i know nuck fans may laugh (considering on paper they have a great team) but its just the chemistry. I don't feel it this year. They will have to finish the team strong, hope I'm wrong but i don't think i am

When scuds is invisible that means he is doing his job. Kopitar is my favorite player, and Quick is amazing.

That being said, Richards looks awful, as does Brown. We are also missing key guys on D, and while they are playing well as of now, I don't think we get very far in the playoffs with our mediocre offense, while missing Greene and Willie.

Very few of us are expecting this team to win the cup this year, but anything's possible if everyone steps up at the right times. The team looks weird right now because we basically have 3 checking lines after the Twins and Kassian and Garrison has a had a tough time adjusting so far.

It's not so much an attitude as a reality due to the shortened season. We did not have very many players playing overseas, so most of the team is playing itself into shape. I'm not gonna get bent out of shape over a poor start as it's how strong you finish that really matters.

tons of tallent on the team (kelser & booth will be back) they just need to add toughness, which the did with kassian... again I HATE to say it bcuz the canucks org. has done a great job last few seasons. Playoff success is hard....

Sens were strong from 02-06.. winning presidents trophy and east standings like 2-3 times but it was only until 2007 when they really took off. Team chemistry and 'flow' of the team overall is very important.

What's the timelines for Greene and Willie? I think you're overestimating the Canucks big time, we're without Booth for a few more weeks and Kesler as well, but his timeline seems like more of a mystery. I think SJ will fall back down to earth a bit soon enough. I've been watching the Blues on center ice and they have dominated games at times, great with puck possession and defensively and 3 lines that can score plus 2 solid goalies make them the team to beat IMO. CHI looks really good, their core group of players is still amazing. NSH looks like a bottom feeder to me.

Good point, I believe we had one of the lowest amount of players playing hockey during the lockout which has to be a factor, but could also benefit us down the road since our guys won't be as worn out. If we can stay afloat, things could really come together nicely since we should be really fresh(especially Kesler and Booth), plus guys like Ballard/Tanev/Raymond look improved this year(we'll see if they can keep it up though).

Yeah for sure, well said. I would love to see a veteran top 9 forward added at some point, someone with some good experience, leadership and grit(preferably a 3rd line center).
