I'm not knocking Leino for taking it, and I understand that the Sabres were trying to make a splash. That doesn't change the fact that if you're going to make a splash, it has to be on someone worth making a splash for. Leino is the opposite of that.

Gerbe to me feels like a good fit next to Grigorenko. All he needed was someone to get the cycle going in the offensive zone for him to get to open ice, and once Grigo gets the open ice he's dangerous as ever. I personally would rather have Leino on this line and hope he makes a quick recovery. And I really don't see them buying out Leino's contract this year or even next. If last season was reason to buy out contracts then shouldn't we be buying out Ehrhoff's too for "under-preforming" This team needed a year to gel and they most certainly are playing like a team. I just hope Gerbe doesn't get hit from behind in this game. I can just picture that philly game last year. Oh well. I'm ready for the game, Lets go Buffalo!!

1. A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.
2. A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minimum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards.
3. A player placed on Injured Reserve is ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days.

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Thomas Vanek ($7.143m) / Cody Hodgson ($3.250m) / Jason Pominville ($5.300m)
Marcus Foligno ($0.900m) / Tyler Ennis ($2.813m) / Drew Stafford ($4.000m)
Steve Ott ($2.950m) / Mikhail Grigorenko ($1.775m) / Ville Leino ($4.500m)

Andrej Sekera ($2.750m) / Alexander Sulzer ($1.250m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,955,357; BONUSES: $910,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $7,254,643

I gave Enroth and Sulzer raises, and Cody is paid around where I think he will be.
McNabb is on the team, as is Tropp.
Goodbye to all of the following: Hecht, Scott, Ellis, Regehr, Leopold, Weber, & Brennan. Granted, they will probably keep one of those as the 7th D.

That leaves them with just north of $7M to spend.
As you can see, the forwards are full, but there is a D opening.
They can either look to sign a D man who is not currently on the team, or trade for one.

Stafford is trade bait at $4M. If you can get Clowe for him, do it in a second.
If you buy out Leino, you have another $4.5M to spend.

Long story short, they are going to have a ton of options going into next season.
- kingcong39

If I'm GM,
I'm trading Leopold to Detroit for Helm (2.125m)
Waive McCormick, he prob gets picked up (-1.2m)
Trade Stafford (-4.0m), prospect(sunder, flynn, etc), 1st... for Ryan (5.1m)
Trade Brennan, Prospect(Adam, Varone, etc)... For Giordano (4.0m)
For next season...
buyout Leino (-4.5m), Armia (1.275m) takes his spot, and I re-sign weber (1.0m) to be our 7th defenseman
That all leaves us with about 3.4m in cap space for next year

I like your mindset...

I resigned Leo for 2.25m. Waived McMuscle and bought out Leino via the 2/3rds clause.

If anaheim trades Ryan it would only be if they resign Perry and/or Getzlaf or are able to trade them for top liners. No way they lose Perry, Getzlaf, Selanne, Koivu, and Ryan for next season.

That's prob true
I think they should trade all those guys though unless it looks like they might be able to make a real run at it...
I think they are a fringe playoff team at most
It sounds crazy, but they could get a TON of young talent if they traded all those guys
They could quickly rebuild and amass a group of talent like the Oilers or Islanders

U think?
Detroit is pretty desperate for defense right now
I'd throw in a pick possibly though I guess
Those trades I suggest were just something I thought might be close enough to get it done
There'd likely have to be tweaking here n there to make any of them actually happen

Leopold also said that if he were to be traded right now he would retire... I think he stays in Buffalo next year for about 2.5M just because he doesn't want to leave.

Sekera is the trade bait right now.. nice cap hit.. offensive potential.. advanced stats said he was our best d-man last year... Brennan and McNabb are the next best.

Yeah there are going to be some tough choices to make. I honestly don't see Ryan coming here. Just don't see his personality saying "I'm down to play IN buffalo". But were going to want some room for Armia and I dont know who loses their spot. Depending on how our forwards play, some people may just have to wait their turn. On defense I can say that I agree more or less with that. Leo and Regehr's time is running short. I think brennan is some great trade bait. Esp if he gets some games in this season and does well. Can see darcy/ruff wanting to hold onto stafford. Dunno. Well see

I think we need to look at teams that actually need to shed cap space and not just teams that we want their players...

At this point, I think we need a top 4 dman to add to our core group of Myers and Ehrhoff. I want McNabb and Sulzer to fulfill those spots but there is no guarantees at this point. With Regehr and Leo both leaving we would be losing our best two shot blockers. I know a lot of people want that big physical dman but I think us losing our best shot blockers will be huge.

I propose a few trades....

Sekera, Brennan, and a 3rd rounder for D Hjalmarsson and RW Jimmy Hayes

or I could see Sekera being spun to Philly...

Sekera, Weber, Flynn/Sundher/Catenacci for W Matt Read.

I think Philly will have to look to trade Read. .he is has 900k salary right now but is a UFA after 2014-2015 and Philly is in cap hell currently going into next year with 5M over. I imagine they could buyout Pronger and/or Briere but who knows.

I don't know what to do with out top wingers... I would be more than willing to trade Stafford but it has to be for a better talent then him. Also, I want to make sure that Grigo has a talented offensive wing next to him instead of two defensive players. Armia would be nice if he was ready.

Buyout Leino via the 2/3rds policy. Waive McMuscle.
