lol, fair enough. To tell the truth I own a Canucks jersey from said Roger Nielson days. My family lives there so I have followed the team over the years. My brother always wants to argue/discuss hockey and he's a Canucks fan so that is the reason I check out this blog from time to time. For the past 4or5 years however, this strange arrogance and annoyance has emerged and I guess, yeah, it bothers me. It shouldn't stop you from enjoying and discussing your team however. You're right.

I would attribute this to the emergence of hockey sites like this one, where people hide behind anonymous profiles. Most hockey fans have been talking trash about each others teams since time began. Growing up with a 6 team league and living in Quebec I hated the leafs with a passion(still do), and thought the Canadien fans were extremely arrogant. Loved Chicago with Makita and NY with Park.

So your stance is nothing new or arrogant fans of really good teams will change as teams fortunes change.

Like, how is the whole City of Champions thing going for Edmonton.

I love the comparisons to Bertuzzi. They are sooo accurate.

Both of these players can score and have a dominating presence on the ice, both players have unchecked anger issues which will allow then to assault another player on the ice using his hockey stick as a club!!!

Awesome thing to be proud of, go nucks fans!

You are 100% bang on correct! The Oilers during the dynasty years were arguably the WORST in terms of arrogance. They used to rattle their Stanley Cup rings along the boards in front of the bench in rinks where they had to walk by the home team bench to get to theirs!!! They were young and extremely cocky, EXTREMELY. Anyone who says they were upset with the old Oilers, Oilers fans, etc. etc. during those periods have really good arguments. The trouble I have with Vancouver fans is this....

I used the word "dynasty" above. We all dislike PIT, because they won a lot of games and fans get over confident and annoying, EDM, MTL, TOR, all of them got a little over exuberant for sure. I simply do not understand where it comes from in Vancouver. I'm not trolling, I am pretty sure it's either number one or number two in terms of most seasons without a championship...and yet, the same annoying arrogance. It's also going to come back and bite VCR fans hard when the kids in EDM start winning again. You guys have actually brought EDM and CGY fans togther because everyone sees it.

Aaaaanyway, hockey is back and we're all happy. Good luck to all. Sorry for interupting your day.

Bertuzzi used his fist not his stick. The stick incident was Marty Mcsorley clubbing Brashear near too death. Wasn't Mcsorley an Oiler at one time?

Let's put it this way... for the better part of almost half a century, we've sucked. For the past 10 years, we've actually moved from suckitude to mediocrity to actual contender status. For once, when we made the Cup Final in 2011, we were actually the favorites and weren't a 6th, 7th or 8th place team that managed to get hot at the right time. You'll have to forgive us our arrogance because for once, we're actually good enough to claim that we're an elite team.

You forgot to mention that thier anthem singer stole the crowd participation thing from the Oilers 2006 Cup run.

At least when Paul L. did it, it was spontaneus and kinda cool. For some reason it bugs me every time that little greasy haired dude does it.

We can give you the white towel waving thing as that came from Roger Neilson. Other than that though you guys should really get your own material.

- steveb12344

Who cares? Do the Oilers have music and lights before the game starts - I bet they stole that from some other team. I'm sorry but knocking another team because of something the anthem singer does......really? really? I mean...really?

It's another excuse to take a dig at the team they hate. Nothing more. Although to hear them tell it you'd think they were unveiling mysteries of the cosmos.

It's true...although LA, while they were an 8th place team, it was only because of their first half. They played really well after that.

I will certainly agree that in the past, Canuck fans never really felt the team was a cup winning team Even when the west coast express was clicking I heard all over Van "their doing well, but I don't see them making it past the 1st round." It was the total opposite in Toronto, when every year in the early 2000's, the fans thought it was their year only to have the Flyers take them out in the playoffs. Damn Flyers!

You'll have much more enjoyable and meaningful hockey conversations with several of the people in here with that kind of attitude

You're more than welcome to hate on the Canucks, as a rival fan, try not to lump us all into one small group based on what you see on an internet message board.

And just in case you missed it earlier...

I hope the Kings drop a 10 spot on the Oil tonight, Kopitar with the double hat trick!

EDIT - PS, now you need an avatar, here's a good one to start, you'll need to photoshop it down to 70x70 pixels http://vansunsportsblogs....2013/01/weise-falling.jpg

Would you also say that this back-to-back President's Trophy winning Canucks team could also be "the best" or "most elite" team to have never won the cup?

There have been numerous talented teams throughout NHL history that didn't win the cup, but were any as good as the Canucks in recent years? If so, who and when?

It's a tough question for Canucks fans, but also an honest one.

Now I understand your vehement hate of the Canucks, I can remember when Gretzky was with the Oilers, man did I ever hate that whiny puke... phenomenal player...but we used to call him crybaby Gretzky, a well deserved nick-name.

Not really. You were just mad because he owned the Canucks and everybody else so thoroughly and easily in those days.

Lot's of teams haven't won the Cup that were President Trophy winners:

1985–86 Edmonton Oilers
1987–88 Calgary Flames
1989–90 Boston Bruins
1990–91 Chicago Blackhawks
1991–92 New York Rangers
1992–93 Pittsburgh Penguins
1994–95 Detroit Red Wings
1995–96 Detroit Red Wings
1996–97 Colorado Avalanche
1997–98 Dallas Stars
1999–00 St. Louis Blues
2002–03 Ottawa Senators
2003–04 Detroit Red Wings
2005–06 Detroit Red Wings
2006–07 Buffalo Sabres
2008–09 San Jose Sharks
2009–10 Washington Capitals
2010–11 Vancouver Canucks
2011–12 Vancouver Canucks

In fact, only 7 teams who won the President's Trophy managed to win the Cup. We're not the only team to get close and lose or lose in the first round the next year.

Hmmm... Fair point, but I don't think they were as good as the Canucks.

That Caps team was nothing but firepower. I think the Canucks are better balanced and certainly had/have better goaltending.

Boston, early 70's.

To be fair, most Cancuks fans weren't as confident last year as the previous one.
