I just dont want us to think he will solve our problems. I love big centers. I actually would prefer bigger centers and smaller wingers.. thats me though..

I don't think anyone thinks he's going to solve the team's problems but I do think he'll at least help.

Without giving up significant assets, no one player is going to solve all the problems.

Even if Hartnell was healthy, there's no one guy that solves all the issues.

Same prognosis? I would sign on for Hartnell missing a month right now. You just know it will be the worst case scenario, 6-8 weeks.

wanted to find a gif of lancelot approaching the castle where he never seems to make any progress and make a joke about the flyers trying to enter the zone

but i couldn't find one

- Don'tForgetTocchet

I like the concept. It's a shame the joke was easily broken up, like a Flyers play when attempting to enter the zone.

I don't have a joke for it, but I want a gif of the scene where they "Retreat!" from the French castle, and Lancelot runs in for one last goofy swing at the castle.

We're 3 games in, albeit into a shortened season, and some are willing to throw in the towel? Sure, it looks crappy right now... Briere, Hartnell, Gus injured, Schenn suspended, 3 goals in 3 games, Laviolette a shade redder in the face than normal.

I'm giving them 10-15 games to shake this early rut. If by game 15 we are looking like this still, then I'd be more willing to look at next season, make moves and prepare for a full 82. Bryz actually looks good so far, maybe we need him to suck for the rest of the team to play good?

Just for fun, I'll throw a few names out there and gauge what people would be willing to give to acquire/sign them this season or coming summer:

UFA:
Perry
Howard
Niklas Backstrom
Streit
Smid
Ryan Whitney

RFA:
Bogosian
Subban
Rundblad
OEM
Demers

Other:
Yandle
Lou

I left some players off that clearly won't be leaving their current teams, like Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo.

Thoughts?

One Season he averaged 22 minutes a game. Still doesn't add up to barely being able to hold a 3rd pair spot. 16 minutes is still a solid total. He's 23 years old. Development of young defenseman is rarely linear. It is normally ups and downs.

Go back and read some of the coverage if you've decided you don't believe what I saw. Maybe you'll believe the guys who cover the team day in and day out.

I think you just don't want to believe it and that's fine. Doesn't make it untrue. It's not like I come on here spouting nonsense.

Well I do but when I do it's obvious.

I wish I had an explanation for you.

Various theories: he bulked up too much one summer, lowering his speed. Teams scouted him, and realized you just have to chip it past him. Wilson ruined his confidence (I'd put $10 on that one if I was in Vegas).

Funny thing is, this town can turn on a defenceman - we ran Larry Murphy out of town, and all he did is go on to win two cups with Detriot, making him the guy with the most cups in the 90s. We ran Bryan McCabe out of town. Hell, we ran Aki Berg out of town, although I'm quite proud of that.

But that doesn't apply to Schenn - everyone in Toronto still wants the guy to do well. In that sense, it was a good trade: both teams had guys who needed a change of scenery and a second chance.

JVR pots two goals and a helper last night.

So.....how many more nights should I expect him to take off before he has another good showing?

- Atomic Wedgie

Typically every 4/5 he has a really monsterous game.

I'd like OEL, Pietrangelo or Bogosian out of the RFAs but I can't see them leaving. Yandle would be a nice fit but his price might be steep. Perry would be good but gotta go after a dman first (maybe Streit?). I'd also buyout Bryz only if the team was essentially guaranteed to sign Jimmy Howard but I can't see Detroit letting him walk.
