You think Clowe is going to get north of $5M?
I have no idea how on earth that is going to happen.
His production and Drew's are very similar. We all know Clowe does more when it comes to being physical and difficult to play against.
I get that. Clowe is making $3.6M right now.
I couldn't see paying him more then $4.5M per, and normally don't like giving guyes who are 30 and up deals like that, but if they could sign him for $4.5M for 3 years, for example, it would definitely be worth trading Stafford for him.

That would be a winning upgrade for the team.

If he gets to free agency?
Yes, def more than 5mil per
GMs are still gonna lose their minds and overpay
Connolly got 4.5mil per,
Clowe is worth way more than that

The most interesting offseason, clearly, and by a lot, is going to be 2014 for Buffalo.

Vanek, Pominville, Ott, Miller are all free agents.

That's $22M in salary. It's going to be some offseason in 2014.

Here's what I came up with Vince....

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Thomas Vanek ($7.143m) / Cody Hodgson ($3.250m) / Jason Pominville ($5.300m)
Marcus Foligno ($0.900m) / Tyler Ennis ($2.813m) / Drew Stafford ($4.000m)
Steve Ott ($2.950m) / Mikhail Grigorenko ($1.775m) / Ville Leino ($4.500m)
Nathan Gerbe ($1.450m) / Cody McCormick ($1.200m) / Patrick Kaleta ($1.250m)
Corey Tropp ($0.725m)
DEFENSEMEN
Tyler Myers ($5.500m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($4.000m)
Andrej Sekera ($2.750m) / Alexander Sulzer ($1.250m)
Brayden McNabb ($0.900m) /
GOALTENDERS
Ryan Miller ($6.250m)
Jhonas Enroth ($0.900m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,955,357; BONUSES: $910,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $7,254,643

I gave Enroth and Sulzer raises, and Cody is paid around where I think he will be.
McNabb is on the team, as is Tropp.
Goodbye to all of the following: Hecht, Scott, Ellis, Regehr, Leopold, Weber, & Brennan. Granted, they will probably keep one of those as the 7th D.

That leaves them with just north of $7M to spend.
As you can see, the forwards are full, but there is a D opening.
They can either look to sign a D man who is not currently on the team, or trade for one.

Stafford is trade bait at $4M. If you can get Clowe for him, do it in a second.
If you buy out Leino, you have another $4.5M to spend.

Long story short, they are going to have a ton of options going into next season.

- kingcong39

we'll just play an entire season with 5D, no big deal

I would not go anywhere near Clowe at over $5M.
That is crazy.
Too much to pay for intangibles with his production.
He's worth $4.5M at most. MAYBE $4.75M.

suggest someone. who you want them to go after? who you want them to keep?

The team will roll with 7D, so you're actually 2 short.

Can I get some fantasy advice? Who would you choose as your goalie? Antii Niemi, Cam Ward, Semyon Varlamov or Cory Schneider?

Armia is not any of those guys and yea I'd take Perry or Clowe any day. You need to relax
- SABRES 89

Not yet anyways...
But I see Armia as a 30goal scorer in the future

I didn't mean I wouldn't like Perry or Clowe...
Just that if I'm trading all that we'd have to in order to acquire that kind of talent,
I'd want a guys who's under contact,
Not a "rental" who's gonna walk

Relax?
I didn't think I was being contentious or getting all fired up... I'm just trying to converse, but it seems like u take everything I say as some kind of an attack or something... I'm not really sure... But that's not how I mean it if that's the way it's coming across to u

I hear you,
I meant if Connolly got 4.5, then Clowe is worth more than that on the open market
I don't wanna overpay for him either

It's clear who I want them to keep, and I also said they would probably keep Weber as the 7th D.

I checked the UFA pool, and it stinks.
I agree with those that have suggested Giordano as a trade.

Yeah, it was completely clear.

Giordano? I'd rather play with your proposed 5D.

If I'm GM,
I'm trading Leopold to Detroit for Helm (2.125m)
Waive McCormick, he prob gets picked up (-1.2m)
Trade Stafford (-4.0m), prospect(sunder, flynn, etc), 1st... for Ryan (5.1m)
Trade Brennan, Prospect(Adam, Varone, etc)... For Giordano (4.0m)
For next season...
buyout Leino (-4.5m), Armia (1.275m) takes his spot, and I re-sign weber (1.0m) to be our 7th defenseman
That all leaves us with about 3.4m in cap space for next year

Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Foligno-Ennis-RYAN
Ott-Grigorenko-ARMIA
Gerbe-HELM-kaleta -Tropp

GIORDANO-Ehrhoff
MCNABB-Myers
Sekera-Sulzer
Weber
