Mediocrity is a bit far from the mark, and Kessel is a guy who can contribute well towards a winning cause. It means that we have to take a different path to try and ice a winning team, but it doesn't preclude being able to do so.

If he doesn't step up and is outplayed by Fraser, Kostka etc. then the Pressbox is where he deserves to be.

Getting out of it and onto the ice is entirely within his control.

I think they wanted to rotate guys in too because they are carrying 8 D, no doubt Franson will be back in soon enough

I had a thought, why not use Phanuef with Franson. They both have a booming shot. At least it won't be predictable like Kaberle & McCabe. When Kabby & Mac use to man the Leaf power play it became soooooo predictable, Kabby pass & Mac would shoot. it worked great in the beginning but than opponents caught on & thus nulified Mac's shot. It became so predictable it was pathetic. So with Dion 7 Franson, the opponents would never figure out who will shoot & they both have bullet shots.

what i was thinking was put kadri on the point with him. has kessel on his left for a quick snapper or one timer, and phaneuf on the right. lupul down low with JVR. i guess kadri would start at center but move to the point
