like xxx said, prospects are prospects, luongo has proven he can play. granted it would have to be the right deal for Lu but i dont think its that insane; i certainly can wrap my head around this one.

as for the prospects; i wouldnt let them rot in bridgeport, you trade/package them in a deal for the top line forward or top 4 dman.

- LetsGoIsles

The thing I always liked about Lou was that his size and technique allowed him to be very economical. While being an exceptional athelete, he really doesn't rely on his athleticism (unlike someone we all know). He's basically the polar opposite of DP. This also means that his play will not diminish as fast with age.

I have a few concerns with Poulin on the long term with his knee's and think Nilson will ultimately be the better option. That said, I don't think we have any need to trade for someone like Luongo, nor do I think he'd have any interest in coming here what-so-ever.

I agree, prospects are prospects.. Any time you can get proven talent for a prospect, I think it is a no brainer.. But sometime the prospects turn into talent as well. It is a double edged sword..

Just curious, and im not looking for a snotty answer, but what makes you think next year (or this summer) will be the year Garth finally puts his mark on this team, by trading some of his prospects?

So you didn't say that he had to the year before or this past to improve the team?

a bunch of things:
1) arena deal is locked up. players will be more willing to sign here knowing they wont have to be uncertain whats going to happen past 2015. HUGE relief for players.
2) everyone in the NHL can see what the isles are doing and how they are setting themselves up for a run at the cup for a few years.
3) they need to reach the cap floor...
4) garth needs to bring in a player to gather more excitement for the move. JT and another ALLSTAR (IE top line/pair player) will do that.
5) next year will be year 6-7 of the rebuild, its time to go for it.
6) but most of all, prospects are starting to get to the point where they are ready for the NHL; the isles wont have enough rosters spots available for all these prospects so either trade them or let them rot in the AHL...i think garth trades them.

every year, EVERY gm has to improve the team, thats just silly to think otherwise...i think this coming offseason is the year he has to make a big splash via FA and Trades...

won't likely happen this coming offseason, but after next season, look out. The prospect of signing with a new team opening a new arena in NY will definitely increase our odds at that point...if the taxes don't scare them away.

living in vancouver I see a ton of luongo. He's developed a disturbing habit where when he goes down, he's upright for a couple of seconds then flops onto his stomach and flails around wildly. His glove hand isn't solid, it's like he can't feel the puck in his hand so he bobbles it a lot. He's not good on breakaways and doesn't seem to always pay attention. I'd say most of the time on the first shot he's fairly solid due to positioning and a team like Vancouver who is solid defensively can clear the front of the net and remove the rebounds - I don't know if that would be the case for the Isles. (lol)

I also know Gillis has said that he's expecting a top six forward, top 4 defenseman and a prospect, which is laughable to me. The price is ridiculous, the goalie isn't as solid without the team in front of him (he's not the same goalie he was in florida) and he's going to be heading down that big hill called decline over the next few years, maybe sooner.

His price tag, contract and skill level all combine to make him one uninteresting package if I was Snow. No thanks.
